It is possible to be ambitious and do great things at work *and* enjoy life in other ways such as spending time with good friends, cooking, and going rock climbing. In fact, I would say the latter is a key ingredient. Success is a marathon, not a sprint.
At 22, work–life balance doesn’t matter. The cost of low ambition isn’t obvious yet at that age, but your ambitious friends will drift away with better jobs, start companies etc. Slowly, your circle becomes all low-ambition people. Nobody pulls you up. No returns
