This whole thread. It's also why I've started eyeing my smart home purchases more skeptically. I've seen too many die.
Ever you ever bought tech that should still work but then the manufacturer stopped providing updates or cut server support?. 🪦 Our new electronic waste graveyard lists over 100 products launched in the last decade which met an untimely end when they became obsolete.

I'm back with a new podcast! Still talking about the IoT, but this time I'm a guest on the in-depth Firewalls Don't Stop Dragons (@FirewallDragons ).
Smart devices come with a lot of virtual strings attached - something CR calls software tethering. Like music and movies, it feels like we're just renting our devices now. @gigastacey and @ConsumerReports are trying to fix this sad state of affairs.
