What a day, sharing the goings on at @RSPBHopeFarm with a fantastic group of people. Helpful, inspiring, and uplifting all wrapped up into one day As ever when you stick a fab group in a field, lots of lessons were learnt to take take on the next 25 years Thanks all!
Inspiring day at @RSPBHopeFarm 25th Farmer Anniversary meeting with the amazing Georgina Bray. Delivering for food and nature. A quarter of a centuryโs work showing that it can be done ๐

Thanks Agricology for putting this together. Have been hoping to try out something along these lines on farm but to date have struggled to find enough guidance. Really informative and plenty of food for thought!
Check out the new @agricology Living Mulches Technical Guide โ out now! โ๏ธPractical step-by-step guidance on getting started with #livingmulches in arable systems ๐พ@Matt3ngland observations and reflections from trialling living mulches in Norfolk. https://t.co/KG4xQbiPOZ

Hack around this field that sits wet and often yields poorly. Not here to judge but wished it was fallowed to see what turns up This year that's just what the farmer did and and a flock of about 50 linnets are here. Probably saves losing money+ the birds and me are very happy ๐ฅฐ

Days like this where you get that buzz of hope for what you can achieve for the next harvest. Still so much to learn about what works best going from cover crops into spring cropping on these soils and will keep an eye on how the differently drilled crops perform
Last of the spring drilling done & we're so lucky with our contracting team and how happy they are to see what works best for our soil under different conditions After a lot of thinking, we couldn't decide whether to go for the tine or the disc direct drill. So why not both?

Curious if people will think this is a good game or that I need to get out more.... But anyone have a favourite hedge among these three? There's definitely a scale of neat to tidy in hedges and these sit everywhere along this spectrum. I think I know our ecologists favourite ?

Variety is the spice of life. hedges = life. So logic dictates that nothing is better than hedges with variety right? One was laid 5 years ago, another 20, and other not at all. very proud of every one๐ Hope everyone else is enjoying the life sprouting into their hedges??

Favourite time of year right now. Drilling is full speed ahead, things are greening up, and everything is just coming to life again
Always nice to see long tails on a hedge survey ๐ Even better when accompanied by chiff chaff, bumblebees, and flowering blackthorn We're just working through some hedgerow surveys whilst we can still get a good look at hedgerow structure Thanks @HedgelinkUK for the app

For anyone who has lighter land, cultivated margins are a no brainer in CSS or SFI Please do join if you want to know how to do cultivated margins right - ie. not becoming overrun with less interesting weeds, making way for the epic arable plants waiting to thrive in your soil
Cultivated margins are one of the most diverse farm habitats & pay well in SFI, but are hard to get right So why not listen to John Secker on our webinar, farmer in the Brecks who we'd wager has the best cultivated margins in the country Register https://t.co/jiLgbNbM10

Lots of fun had on Sunday at the farm. Getting that on our length of hedge that has been going for 3 years now, alternating traditional hedge lettering methods with a slightly more rustic and mechanical approach
What we got up to on Sunday .... ๐ Digger out opening up a ditch habitat that was overgrown with a hedge and needed clearing for drainage ๐ฟ Using the opportunity to lay the hedge with volunteers, and encourage a bushy dense structure growing next to and uphill of the ditch

The last crop we drilled before the drill went in the shed (Extase winter wheat) is just poking through ๐ Let's hope for an easier year to get soil back on track after last harvest. Hope everyone else is onwards and upwards for 2025 too #longwaytogo #letsgo

Regarding the recent application by @NFUtweets to allow 'emergency' use of neonics on sugar beet, this image explains the problem: most of the pesticide goes into soils, leaches into waterways, & is taken up by wildflowers & hedgerows. Only 5% in crop. https://t.co/M3ltdM3U8Z

Just checking understanding of the @DefraGovUK guidance here... Is this correct hedgerow management rules? And do you ignore the need for a hedge buffer beyond 2m from hedge centre? @JanetHughes @RTKfarmer @LinesMartin @GrahamDenny9
