WSF response when this happens is "just drive around". There's no backup bus provided or anything. That leaves walk and bike on passengers completely stranded.

Related to reduced service there's also been a substantial increase in how reliable WSF service is. Whole routes are regularly going out of service *without warning* for 5+ hours at a time. I love to bike and walk on to the ferry and I hesitate to do it now for some routes.

Bought my children a wiggle cushion at the thrift store. What I anticipated then fighting over: who gets to sit on it What they actually fight over?: who is winning in a game they made up about rolling it down the hallway π€¦

I really find it weird when people complain about the fact that we have more vaccines today than we used to. It is a direct indication that we can prevent more diseases and spare people suffering that used to be unavoidable. I would call that a very good thing.

1/Please share this thread on behalf of my physician colleague, Eunice Stallman, who is facing the nightmare of her 9mo daughter, Zoey, being diagnosed with brain cancer several weeks ago. @BlueCrossIdaho has added to their anguish by obstructing access to vital treatment.

Found an 80 gallon tumbling composter for sale at the thrift store this evening. 6 years with this bike and it's still freaking awesome.

New preprint on Omicron severity just out. Key findings β intrinsic severity of Omicron is similar to ancestral Wuhan strain, but effective (observed) severity of Omicron is reduced in people who have been vaccinated and/or previously infected (1/16) https://t.co/ftyyy95U5Y

Every Democrat on the #waleg House Appropriations Committee just voted to gut HB 1436, and as a result special education in Washington State will continue to be woefully underfunded and services denied to students in need.

Why are my Facebook ads trying to convince me that I (and apparently everyone, according to the ads) need constant blood glucose monitoring and that bananas are dangerous? Dear God what are we doing?

Update: on the way home the Broadway bike lane was worse. Such a sheet of ice that even the studded tires weren't sufficient to be safe. I walked my bike to Yesler where I felt comfortable taking the general purpose lane.

Not too shocked to be the only bike on the water taxi this morning. My ride on the Vashon side was pretty easy. Seattle side, not so much. Yesler and Broadway bike lanes are both sheets of ice. Studded tires and snowboard goggles + helmet FTW this morning.

I still get 40+ miles of very hilly riding in turbo on a single charge on the dual battery setup. Down about 25% from when the bike was new, but still very respectable.
