When I was a midshipman, I was a witness for a rape accusation (the guy literally bragged to me about what he did). Men in my company who had known me for years prior to school refused to believe this guy would do something like rape someone. The local paper ran an article 1/

will once again have a woman in the skies to represent those who are currently forward deployed, standing the watch, and keeping us safe here at home. Best of luck.
The legitimate trauma women face coming forward for sexual assault/harassment is exacerbated by uncaring, uninterested, or skeptical chains of command. SHARP training is ineffective and a waste of time. Sexual assault/harassment needs to be treated like drug pops 8/
and I was getting ostracized, yelled at in a public forum, called names, etc. all because the men (and even my roommate at the time) couldn’t not fathom that this guy could rape a girl. THAT is where the system fails. There is a perpetual belief that false accusations 6/
I am not saying I was a perfect angel at school. I was immature and tried to do whatever it took to get people to like me. Lying about a rape, however, was not one of those things. The scary part about all of this was that I was a WITNESS. I wasn’t even the victim 5/

might call herself angry, but she is brave as hell. Calling out her abuser BY NAME and the system that is still protecting him years later. Sadly, she is not unique. Grooming is RAMPANT amongst women junior enlisted AND officers. Much love Kelsey.
Missing you my friend today and everyday...I’ll be blasting some “Boot Scootin Boogie” and various Justin Bieber hits just for you. I may even dance with a crockpot.

Zero tolerance from the command. Period. I am not saying that legal protections/processes shouldn’t be observed. They absolutely should be, but every level of the chain of command needs to change the default mindset to PROTECT the victim not assume it’s a “misunderstanding” or 9/
WE HAVE TO DO BETTER. Women (and men) should not be getting victimized all over again for reporting. They should not be murdered. They shouldn’t go missing. They should feel confident to report any reprisals to their chain of command....A failure of a chain of command should 14/
occur all the time and women are just out to ruin men’s careers. Instead of the default mindset being this woman is telling the truth, at all ranks, the default is usually that it’s a false accusation or a “misunderstood situation” because alcohol or something was involved. 7/
continue serving. But at least the woman won’t be murdered in the armory, dismembered, and encased in concrete. It is not hard for a commander to issue an MPO or even move personnel around to different shops. These steps need to be automatic actions as soon as accusation 11/
in front of my whole squad at noon meal that I was lying and it was a conspiracy with me, another witness, and the victim to get this guy kicked out of the Academy. A conspiracy theory was more believable than this guy raping a girl...4/
“withhold judgement/action until the investigation is complete.” If a woman has enough guts to come forward, put the protections in place immediately. The accused will still have their due process and depending on the existence of evidence may even be permitted to 10/
This is a bit embarrassing but wearing my hair in a tight bun for 16 years caused me to have a bald spot. Right in the front along the part. My other choice was cutting it short, but with my curly hair, I looked like Mufasa unless I could straighten it, stay inside to avoid 1/7
everyone knew who was being referenced. The men in my company printed out the article and covered the victim’s the door and our company spaces with it. I was specifically pressured by someone who I thought was my friend to retract my statement. I remember him screaming at me 3/
after the guy and his skeezy lawyer leaked details of the case. These details basically made the victim and the witnesses (including me) look like whores who were banging the entire brigade (not true). Even though the paper did not print any names except for the accused 2/
If you’re pissed about Ashli Babbitt who was participating in an insurrection, you should be super pissed about unarmed POC being shot for selling CDs, sleeping in their own beds, driving to work…if you aren’t, then there might be an underlying issue (pssst…it’s racism).
One of my greatest honors was flying Jeff home to his final resting place. I still miss him and his super twangy version of “Boot Scootin Boogey”. I hope you’re having a beer with Taj, Broph, and Puffin this weekend.

Incredibly honored to be named one of the

’s 50 Most Influential Alumni by the USNA Alumni Association. The compiled list can be found in this month’s issue of Shipmate Magazine.
I don’t have all the answers, but changing the default mindset to supporting/believing the victim vice assuming “false accusation” starts with the chain of command and MUST be enacted at the SNCO and NCO level. 13/
Bottom line (if you’re still reading), I am not advocating one way or another WRT hair standards. What I am INSISTING on is that leaders listen to those who have skin in the game. Men wanting “discipline” don’t deal with the issues listed above. Standards can change. 7/7
occurs at minimum. Yes a piece of paper won’t stop a person hell-bent on murdering someone, but it’s a start. It shows the command is taking it seriously while the investigation is carried out. It gives the victims confidence that at least some protect will be put in place 12/
Update: Negative for COVID! I tested positive for a different virus that explains my symptoms. Very happy news. Thank you for all the prayers! Stay safe!
We are failing our Veterans.
If the VA is citing leadership gaps as an excuse for spending only 0.9% of its suicide prevention outreach budget, I know a large group of people that are looking for employment and have leadership experience. THEYRE CALLED VETERANS YOU BUFFOONS.

is a muppet who literally undermines the little credibility his network is desperately clinging to...
My 2 year old has a speech delay due to having ear issues (infections —> tubes). After hours of work at home, help from his preschool teachers, and speech therapy, today he said “Mommy I have a book.” This is his first full sentence and I am so happy I could cry.
These are just a couple of examples. The man that hit her was just sentenced and again, no statement from her unit. We need to do better.
@JimLaPorta
can you please bring attention to this Marine and give her the acknowledgement she deserves?? 6/6
Because even acknowledging the non-combat loss of a female Marine is not priority. Yet, if you do a simple Google search you will find dozens of official USMC statements about Marines killed in similar circumstances. 2/x
So it’s been almost three years since I was on the Blue Angels, and I just got recognized by a fan at Houston Hobby. I should have told them I married another Blue Angel, their mind would have been blown 😂
Thank you everyone for the well wishes. We are back home and settling into our new routine. She is the easiest baby so far so let’s hope she keeps it up. Because of all the weirdos on the internet, we won’t be sharing pics or anything. I will say though, she’s adorable!
You can be politically conservative and even *gasp* a Trump supporter AND support a new federal holiday commemorating the end of slavery…just to be abundantly clear—SLAVERY WAS BAD. Every American should be able to agree with that simple phrase. What is wrong with people 🤦🏻♀️
Our 1 y.o. daughter had a blowout that smelled horrific while we were trapped on a Disney bus for 20 mins going back to our resort…people were gagging…she will NEVER live this down…
At daycare today, my oldest got stung by a wasp for the first time...oh and he also pulled his pants down took a dump on the playground and then stepped in it...so there’s that.

puts its people first. I got a positive pregnancy test literally the day I got my offer letter. I was nervous to tell my boss because I was going to have to go on maternity leave after only being at the company for 9 months. I got nothing but love and support. ❤️❤️
I chose bald. Now that I have a nice office job where I don’t wear a helmet, I can wear my hair down everyday and luckily it has started to grow back. I don’t say this to complain. I say this because there are female-centric issues in the military that males do not 3/7
Everyday I flew with a helmet, I had to take my hair down in a low pony tail or braid and shove it down the back of my flight suit. Current equipment is not designed to support a bun. 6/7
understand. So before throwing around standards and your archaic view on discipline, you might want to ask those who actually have to adhere to said standard. Pubs and rules can be changed (rolling sleeves is one example that has gone back and forth in the Corps). 4/7

Well folks...started feeling under the weather a couple days ago. With recent travel, the pregnancy, and a rising fever, I am currently getting tested for COVID. Let’s hope it’s anything else, but HUGE thank you to the amazing nurses and doctors. Stay safe out there.😷
The argument that hair can get caught in machinery is valid. So can necklaces, rings, dog tags, shoe laces, etc. It is not hard in a maintenance manual to add a step that says to “secure loose or hanging items to include hair” prior to conducting hazardous actions 5/7
@kcmunoz_
What enrages me the most about your story was he likely preyed on you because you were in crisis and vulnerable. I’m so glad you have a strong, supportive partner because I’m sure your relationship with intimacy has to be complicated. Proud to be in your orbit. You make me better
Just moved into our new dream home on Monday. Today, during what was supposed to be nap time, our two year old removed his diaper, took a dump in the middle of his room, then ran through it while finger painting the walls. Carpet and walls covered in shit. 🤮🤮🤮

Please tell me she reported this up her chain of command, if not formally, at least to the senior female in her command. I no shit would make these Marines do a report on the female reproductive system...if she needs help, advice, please tell her to reach out to me on the global
