Why would anyone want to be 'left alone' with mono-gender hobbies. I'm old enough to remember when there were zero girls in my high school who liked videogames, metal or DnD, and now I meet women all the time who I can enjoy these things with. Men's only spaces suck.
I want to make this very clear: Young men have nothing. Literally, we have nothing, no future prospects, most don't have skills, most don't have partners, all for reasons outside of our control All we had was our hobbies, and we couldn't even be left alone to have that

many (most?) critics and academics have a severely distorted view of contemporary literature, magnifying by degrees the minor genre that is literary fiction, and then further magnifying and making representative those very few lit fic titles that breakout into ubiquity

One thing I'd like to do one day is write a new version of this book that I got when I was 15. There was a lot of predictable stuff in it - Kerouac, Thompson etc.- but it introduced me to a lot of writers who I wouldn't have read. How about a book of 21st Century Cult Fiction?
