New paper on yield variability in coffee plants! We found support for resource depletion, esp N, as a key driver, consistent with the resource budget model of mast seeding. Fertilizer and shade did little to mitigate underlying resource tradeoffs.

I’m prepping an application for the AAAS science and technology policy fellowship. Any tips or thoughts on how to differentiate the application components would be much appreciated! @AAAS_STPF

BREAKING: All of Puerto Rico — every town, neighborhood, house — is without power. That’s 1.4 million households. Winds over the southern portion of the island have gusted 80-100 mph, but elsewhere winds have been much lesser. Despite this, the grid is tenuous at best.

First paper as a lead author is officially out! We show that crops known to be alternate-bearing at an individual scale frequently exhibit alternate-bearing even at a national scale. As with masting, this is especially pronounced in wind-pollinated crops! @CroneLiz

@Edwards_evoeco When I mentioned that male #sagegrouse often copulate with dried cowpies, I didn't do the situation justice. I will elaborate in a thread. @EffinBirds @ProBirdRights For most males, cowpie copulation is just an occasional indulgence. For others, it's a lifestyle.
