Nah, you left out that he didn’t have cable, and that he primarily saw MTV at his friends’ houses. Having cable in the 90s was a low key privilege that not everyone had. I know several friends who didn’t, and they only saw BET, MTV, Disney, and Nickelodeon at other households

that's news to me that they learn it in school, cause when go outside of montreal, you find out that no only do french canadians not know english by default but also, generally speaking (excuse the pun), they do not know english
Gotta love how people assume the French Canadians know English by default, like we didn't have to learn it in schools over the years. Cry me a river. English education is taught from a very young age in Quebec. Why couldn't you learn French at a young age as a second language?
