On the way to our tree nursery, Horse Chestnuts falling on the road and track were quickly collected before they got crushed. Every gust of wind brought more raining down with the occasional knock on the head! Collect seeds while you have the chance, the seasons change so quickly

We've been putting woodchips and shavings on our Oak beds. Big #thankyou to Jovis for sorting out the lovely donated woodchip for us. A byproduct from a local timber framing company, these untreated green oak shavings have been left to rot for a few years before collecting 😁❤️🙏

In case you didn't know it already... trees help mitigate global heating and contribute to keeping the earth cool! We thought this was already proven long ago but every little helps! Trees are amazing but can't solve it all, we still need to cut emissions!

Have a look at the latest leaky dams in action during the downpours last week! We did the leaky dams and tree planting earlier this year on behalf of @treesponsibilit funded by their Banks & Branches project last season #naturalfloodmanagement #leakydams #nfm #workerscooperative

Epic amounts of crap taken out of the River Calder between Hebden bridge and Sowerby. Over 3km of river cleared and we pulled out tonnes of stuff! Plenty of historical waste but also #rawsewage and very unpleasant working near the sewage works with wet wipes galore! #rivercleanup

Finding acorns on paths with no chance of growing. Got plenty of acorns to grow at our community tree nursery so we just collect and relocate them where they might have a chance to grow. Works very well in areas that have opened canopy due to fallen trees with brambles to protect

#Sloes collected in October, processed to extract the #seeds with volunteers and left to #stratify over winter. #Chitted seeds carefully pricked out and planted in April. Blackthorn grown about 30cm over the last 3 months and should be ready for planting this winter #growingtrees

We started on our next riparian tree planting site in Cragg Vale which will have 800 trees planted. In tune with our theme of the season, Charlie was delighted to find many rocks while screefing! Back to pilot holes for stakes until we get decent ground conditions (hopefully)! 🙈

Anyone out there have any ideas on these insect eggs? Pete found them on one of the tree planting stakes on site today. We're very curious what they are and figured someone can point us in the right direction instead of spending ages looking online... #insecteggs #identification

Preparations for another #NoDig tree nursery bed underway. Used cardboard given to us by local businesses and a free trailer load of well rotted horse manure to go with it 🙌💚 We're grateful for all the help and support we get with growing trees for the future #CircularEconomy

We noticed a big difference with sites which had balsam left further upstream or out of reach compared to others which didn't. Always get any plants which are further uphill or upstream. In this case several fields away but fed by natural flow of water further up the catchment

Thank you Margo for collecting these hazel nuts for us to grow at our Daisy Bank community tree nursery. Do you live in #calderdale and have #hazelnuts we can collect on your land? Please get in touch so we can grow more local trees for natural flood management and tree planting

After the wettest February on record, @Costingtheearth have just done an episode on flooding : Planting trees reduces surface runoff and helps stabilise soils. Upland management like trees and leaky dams are known as Natural Flood Management or NFM.

A picture worth a thousands words - courtesy of @denny_robert and @RTFphotos from Calder Valley last week. Rainfall streaming down slopes compacted by decades of pitter-pattering tiny feet. Photos like this show where to plant trees across slopes to reduce downstream #flood risk.

So pleased with our brilliant volunteers who come out and help us every Sunday with bashing Balsam. They really got stuck in as usual working in old mill ponds, dense bramble patches and nettles at Jumble Hole Clough! Back again next week for more and there might even be cake 😀
