I am very excited to share the main project from my graduate work with @lisa_giocomo that is out in @NatureNeuro today! Hippocampal place cell remapping across environments might simply reflect the animal's best guess of the environment identity. This guess depends on experience.
Remapping of place cells in the CA1 region of the #hippocampus is driven by prior experience and approximates an optimal estimate of the identity of the current context; new from @lisa_giocomo and Mark Plitt https://t.co/gkh0x3JpNi

In Campbell, Attinger et al. (@malcgcamp, Alex Attinger, @SamOcko, @SuryaGanguli), we consider the degree to which cortical regions that support navigation follow unique versus universal behaviorally-relevant coding principles. https://t.co/8gZcZ0JdBn

During navigation, animals estimate their position using path integration and landmarks, engaging many brain areas. Whether these areas follow specialized or universal cue integration principles...

Up now on BioRxiv – exceptional work (and our first 2P paper) by Mark Plitt! We show that hippocampal neural representations for environmental contexts can be precisely predicted by knowing an animal’s prior experience.

Congratulations Lisa! Very well deserved. I’m so happy to be part of the lab under your fantastic mentorship. Excited to be part of all of the fun science taking place in the lab
Promoted to tenured Associate Professor! What the lab has accomplished would have never been possible without the creativity, openness and inquisitiveness of many talented students, postdocs and staff! And thank you to my mentors, staff and colleagues for being so supportive :)
