So-called objective metrics in academia disadvantage women. Letters of reference for women tend to have less stand-out adjectives. Women's papers are cited less, their grants are smaller on avg & their papers have a harder time getting past reviewers.

My photo was published in The Guardian a few years ago, under Reader's Pictures - Rhythm.[Sunday morning at Guarujá, a beach in Brazil]. I was surprised when I read the piece; nobody told me it was published as it was not in the top 3 places. Fun anyway.

Did you know some ants have tiny eyes inside their brains?.They are cerebral extraocular photoreceptors, and I've studied them in my PhD. They have lamellar & pigments. Some beetles have them too.
