The concept of artistry in gymnastics is ridiculous. These are gymnastic athletes, and expecting them to perform like dancers sets an unachievable goal and is borderline insulting to actual dancers who spend their lives honing artistic movement skills.

She’ll be fine. One bad landing will not destroy her body. If all of her tumbling had these kinds of landings then it would be concerning but it’s a new skill and she had never done it before on the floor. Her landing into the pit have been solid.

when i read siken's work, i read a lot of it as being about grief, becaus it has haunted me my entire life. and whether or not the specific pieces are meant to be about grief, it's so clear that it's something that richard siken understands and is deeply familiar with.
