If the electorate really aren't happy with their choice of candidate they now effectively have a Re Open Nominations choice. Elect Jim Gavin. He's on the ballot paper. He says he doesn't want to be President, so will resign. We'd have to have another election.

@faulagh @irishnational10 Yes, if voters switch from spoiling to marking Gavin as their first preference, those become valid first-preference votes for him in Ireland's PR-STV system. They count toward his initial tally and can transfer: as a fraction of surplus if he reaches quota, or fully to the next

So Jim Gavin was illegal landlord, who didn't upkeep the apartment others lived in. And even when made aware he was mistakenly paid thousands after the tenant left, that didn't belong to him, he hung on to it despite numerous pleas. Sorry but that's as low as it gets for me.
