I have no issue paying higher LPT. It's ridiculous that it has remained broadly flat while both property prices and the population have increased substantially.
However any increase needs to be EXCLUSIVELY dedicated to creating cleaner, safer streets in Dublin.
Because I have seen this nonsense a few times, it's time for a
#factcheck

If Israel wanted to manipulate the the televote they would have done what others tried in the past and
I know Lismore. It's a gorgeous small town with less that 1,500 people. What were the government doing dumping 200 people into their community without any discussion?
Can I congratulate the Disney employee who chose to call in the Gardai because they saw a message on a billboard on the street that they didn't like.
They've now drawn 3m viewers to this message.
The "Streisand effect" really is the gift that keeps on giving.
I really don't give a fig about
#popeinIreland
but I find the tedious, increasingly rancid negativity about the whole event both mean spirited and against our international reputation of being a welcoming people.
So in effect it's anti Irish.
I went through my entire education system not knowing whether my teachers were married or single. The only information I got was the revelation by a couple of teachers on where they spent their summer holidays.
That's as much as any student needs to know.
This teacher explains how she takes pride in being very open about her sexuality, but isn’t sure how to explain to her students that she is in a polyamorous relationship.
If Trump did this while he was POTUS it would lead Irish media coverage.
This is not only rude, it's against one of the core principles of democracy, that politicians are answerable to the electorate and also to the media who are charged with holding politicians to account.
If

What an amazing result on the Irish televote. Israel ahead of the huge diasporas from Ukraine, Latvia and Lithuania.
Never ever be fooled into thinking that there isn't significant support for Israel in the country.
We may not march, but we stand in solidarity.

It would be a shame if you retweeted this to remind people of their backgrounds.
So

One of the first things the government needs to do after

is to have a residency requirement to vote in our local elections.
Bussing asylum seekers to polling booths to vote like sheep is an attack on our democracy.
🚨🇮🇪 Foreigners are being bussed to election centers to vote in today's elections

Just spoke to a friend whose pensioner parents have decided to leave Ireland for the winter due to the cost of heating their large (and old) house. Just booked a lovely apartment in the Algarve for €600 a month.
Is this the way of the future?
Dear God, what has this country turned into when the government think its better to turn the Gardaí onto peaceful protestors than to actually talk to local communities?
We need an election asap.
In case it's removed later (link below), this close-up view shows outrageous behaviour by Gardaí towards peaceful locals.
The state has gone rogue when a poll published on Saturday showed:

Immigration too low: 3%

The only thing that needs to be investigated is how O'Gorman and other government ministers misrepresented the AG's advice both in the Dáil and in the media.
They told bare-faced lies and were caught out. Have the decency to resign.
Pretty mean spirited of
@rtenews
not to give credit to

UPDATE, they've now creditted

This is how democracy is supposed to function, he was willing to share his expertise & fight the good fight with a well-prepared argument.
Only a matter of time before this becomes an election issue. The complete mismanagement of the asylum process is yet another reason why we need this government brought down asap.
So the morning after the worst

since the IRA hunger strikes, we have one side wanting to blame immigrants and the other blaming "the far right".
Drop your agendas and get behind things we should all support like better policing and a controlled immigration system.

In most countries when a government minister tells barefaced lies in an effort to influence a referendum result they would apologise or even resign.
In Ireland they just dig in knowing that neither the opposition nor most of the media will hold them to account.

Media Minister Catherine Martin is asked if she will delete a tweet in which she falsely claimed that the Constitution says "a woman's place is in the home" - a claim which was explicitly contradicted by her government's own Electoral Commission.

Within the hour, Ireland will be rid of all its Green MEPs. In an election that has often disappointed me, I'll gladly take that as a win for the common people of Ireland, for common sense and for the country as a whole.
Next step; getting them out of the Dail.
#alotgonemoretogo
What an embarrassment to
@GardaTraffic
. There is nothing in Irish law that says you cannot display something that some people find offensive. (Imagine!)
I find it hard to believe that 2 Gardaí have nothing better to do on the streets of Dublin than to harass this man.
You may think Irish beef and dairy farmers couldn't be wiped out but during my lifetime we have eliminated our flour milling and sugar beat industries. We're well on the way to eliminating turf and our sea fishing is on the ropes.
Our politicians are waging war on rural Ireland.
IGNORED: Taoiseach Leo Varadkar walks out of a press briefing as

Mark my words, if the government doesn't change tack on its open-door policy on asylum seekers, they will be hammered at the next local elections which are only 18 months away. People (especially working-class people) have had enough of our hospitality being abused.
This is Tourism Ireland essentially throwing in the towel. Hotels are full of migrants, our streets are dangerous, restaurants are going to the wall and those that survive are poor value for money.
Who in their right mind would come to Ireland to holiday?
Irish media now engaging in a full scale pile-on against

I find it absolutely appalling and disrespectful that there were no government ministers in Dublin Castle to witness the results being announced.
It's a perfect example of how this worst ever Irish government disrespects democracy.
Two countries have an opt-out on EU migration agreements, 🇩🇰 and 🇮🇪.
Once again Denmark activated their opt-out, thereby saving Danes the stress and monies involved in supporting economic migrants.
Here the government won't even permit a debate on opting out.
#HowIrelandWorks
Aontú vote against the government's motion to refer the EU Migration Pact to Committee without debate.
It is scandalous that the Government is still trying to silence debate on this important issue.
Aontú will not be silenced.
This should be a resigning matter for at least two government ministers (McEntee and O'Gorman) both for going ahead with this referendum when the implications on the immigration crisis were known and also for withholding that information prior to the vote.

In case you're wondering why the Gardaí facilitated the saturation media coverage of the Hutch return and hearing yesterday, it was a distraction from this much bigger story and the media fell for it, hook, line and sinker.
I spent my teens on a corporation estate in Limerick. Unemployment was 3 times what it is now. Welfare was a pittance and there were few resources for teenagers.
What we had was parental responsibility, discipline and zero tolerance of criminality.
We need more of these today.

There's a very sinister story developing about Coolock and a journalist abusing their status, that the media outlet need to get on top of very quickly and make a statement.
I cannot see O'Gorman being re-elected. Few politicians have done as much damage to this country in one term in the Dail.
After Zappone, there's now a very strong case for not appointing a brand new TD to cabinet on their first term.
Once again I say that all inbound travellers to Ireland should have their passports scanned at point of departure and anyone turning up without proof of ID should be deported.
Also all asylum claims should be resolved within 6 months.

As someone who was targetted for my sexuality I'm very familiar with homophobia.
The questions

This is my second Christmas in Ireland in 30 years. Last year, the television was shockingly bad, but there was some excuse (Covid).
There's no such excuse this year as there was plenty of time to record something decent.

Welcome to the worst run nanny-state in the World, where you can't get a hospital bed, people in severe pain are on waiting lists for months and sometimes years and meanwhile the minister in charge is focused on putting labels on alcohol products.
Ireland is to become the first country in the world to introduce comprehensive health warning labels on alcohol products. I’ve signed the regulations so that from May 2026 labels must contain details of calorie content, grams of alcohol and risks of liver disease and cancer.
This will only be "the new normal" if we do nothing. Here are 5 things we can do right now to stop it.
1 Deport everyone whose asylum claim failed
2 Set up a safe country list where we automatically reject applications
3 No documentation, no entry
4 Implement tge Dublin protocol
I'm sorry, this is nonsense.
If you put a "durable relationship" (which only the courts can define but a judge thinks could be as basic as getting a joint Christmas card) on the same footing as marriage, then of course you are undermining marriage.
At least be honest.
#voteNoNo
A “Yes” vote to the Family Amendment on March 8th will not undermine the institution of marriage.
The Constitution would continue to recognise marriage as an institution that the State must guard and protect.

I have monitored the betting odds for the European elections since April and it's time for my final update, on the eve of voting.
As usual in elections there have been some dramatic late changes.

Do away with scores of NGOs.
Put the squeezed middle first.
Scale back all the climate change stuff.
Challenge identity politics.
Protect our lower Corporation Tax.
Not allow NIMBYs to stop homes being built.
Can we please stop this nonsense. Since the foundation of the state over a century ago the number of Irish immigrants who went abroad seeking refuge (let alone after destroying their documentation) is miniscule.
We went where they wanted immigrants and could accommodate them.
Shame on every single one of these protesters.
They have very short memories - so many of their (near) kin were forced to leave Ireland to seek a better life in other jurisdictions.
