I hunt fake history and correct it, but also post amazing real history stuff. Rude, obscene, vulgar, racist people who can't act like grown-ups get blocked.
I've written a book!
In it I debunk 101 fake history claims, some of which you thought were real!
It's available in English, Dutch & German and more languages are to follow.
More about the book and where you can order it here:
In this cave once lived a truly vile and terrifying creature that put fear into the hearts of many a brave medieval knight.
I dare not speak the monster's name, but if you know it, you know. ;)
We knew this was coming, but still.
It's only a matter of time before we're flooded with realistic, believable "film footage" showing us fake history events that your auntie Eileen and uncle Dave will see on Facebook and blindly believe.
OpenAI just released their Video Generator
They call it Sora

Wow!
Look at the amazing quality of this 3000 year old Bronze Age sword that was just found in Germany!
It is gorgeous and looks like it was lost a few years ago, not a few thousand years ago!
I'm getting a lot of questions about these photos, so here's what I've found;
The photos show Евгений Степанович Кобытев (Evgeny Stepanovich Kobytev) and yes, it's the same man in both photos and yes, before and after his experiences during WW2.
But there's more.
Thread;
1. Pic on the left shows a water canal in Epidauros, which is in Greece.
2. Lots of places in Africa today have modern plumbing, lots of places outside it do not.
3. There's been water management & plumbing in Africa for 1000s of years.
4. Unfollow.
Gustav was Gertrude!
Recent DNA research on remains found in the 17th century Vasa shipwreck has revealed that what was thought to be a man in his 40s was actually a woman in her 20s-30s!
The incredibly talented O.D. Nilsson had to make a whole new recreation:
This account has 4.5 million followers.
That is a Photoshopped image of American stage, film, and television actress and model Merry Anders, 1934 – 2012.
Here is the 1957 original;
So what did Vikings really look like?
TV/movies tell us they looked like dollar-store biker gangs, wearing black leather, covered in dirt and allergic to colours... but in reality... they looked like 1970s pop singers.
Seriously, thread time.🧵

That is an altered photo.
In the original he was wearing a sort of cap.
Does the hair someone photoshopped into the photo on the left look familiar?
See next tweet...
No he wasn't.
Burn victims their muscles often 'cramp' or 'flex', putting them in certain positions due to the heat, with other words as the consequence of the effect heat has on the body limbs are contracted.
Do your research, show some respect to victims of a disaster.

Just saw this being shared, it's iffy in more ways than one, so here's a bit more info.
This is the Sebara Dildiy (which means broken bridge) across the Blue Nile and it shows the situation as it was over a decade ago.

Yes but...
These bullets did collide but not mid-air as is sometimes suggested.
The one on the left was probably never fired, it has no "rifling" marks.
So it was probably stationary, perhaps carried in a clip, bandolier or just in an ammo crate, when it was struck.
Not uncommon
Late 1920s daybed from George Gershwin's New York apartment.
With room for books, trinkets, books, glasses of absinth, books, opium, tobacco or books.
How on earth do people survive without one of these?
This video has gone viral on tiktok, man finds album that he thinks may have extremely rare and unusual photos of the Nanjing (Nanking) massacre.
But things are not like they seem, I'll explain in the following tweets. 🧵
So when his photos are shared and we're told they show the face of a soldier before and during the war, it's a bit of an understatement.
It's the face of a soldier before and after war but also after the unimaginable horrors of a concentration camp.
Nobody knows everything, even people on the internet can be mistaken.
On top of that our ideas and knowledge of the past changes regularly.
If you have doubts about something, do your own research, check several sources, never trust anyone blindly, and yes, that includes me.
For once someone predicted the Simpsons in stead of the Simpsons predicting everything.
Yes, this is real, ladies & gentlemen: Ancient Egyptian Marge.
Apparently this is the coffin of Tadi Ist, daughter of the High Priest of Djehouti in Ashmunein:
has created some sort of animate your old photos application and I'm of course using it to feed my history addiction.
I apologise in advance to all the ancestors I'm about to offend.
Very fake history.
I'm sorry Queenie.
@bethanyshondark
Maybe they expected people to be grown-up in stead of responding like badly brought up easily upset angry teenagers?
Either way, I think I am their audience because David made me smile and that dress looks great.
How are their follower counts doing now?
This video has had 2.5 million views.
It claims the Iron Maiden was used by the Spanish Inquisition.
In reality it's mostly a Victorian fantasy creation used to sell museum tickets.
PS; this is a good example of why sometimes fake history is not just a bit of harmless fun or a silly mistake, but actually dangerous and damaging, offensive and even supremacist racist nonsense.
Meanwhile in Europe... still not repaired!! ;)
After the war he became an art teacher again.
Like for most who suffered as he did, the rest of his life was impacted by the war.
He had nightmares, waking up screaming in the night.
But his art helped him and he eventually made a book about his experiences.
He managed to escape in 1943 and returned straight to the front lines, fighting all the way to Germany, earning the Order of the Red Star and the Hero of the Soviet Union medal, but was refused the Victory over Germany medal because he had been a prisoner.
He also made exhibits of his work, especially in the places where he was once a prisoner, escapee and soldier, allowing locals to recognise themselves but also their tormentors in his pictures.
I'm writing a bit about literacy in Medieval Europe and just wanted to share the lovely writings 7 year old Onfim who lived in the 13th century left behind.
He wrote stories, made drawings and did his homework on birch bark.
I can't resist looking a bit better at the handiwork of this art department.
Let's compare.
They stuck mud with straw on a wooden wall.
Because... er... wot?
Did they daub the wrong wood?
Yes it is gorgeous, no it is not in Bucharest, it is not even real and it is also not abandoned.
Its an AI generated image:
Sigh, I guess this AI stuff is going to give me a lot of extra work.
Born this day in 1884, on Neskuchnoye estate in Ukraine, the marvelous painter Zinaida Serebriakova. After my time, but worth making exception! Here by herself at mirror in 1909.
A while back
@WeirdMedieval
posted a lovely little dog picture.
And I couldn't resist...
It ook only a few seconds to take the photo, Beike followed the freeze command she's used to for when there's a car coming and was paid tons of treats!
Hat staid on thanks to fence.
I was asked to check out this video, when I saw their thumbnail and that they had 13 million subscribers, I had to go check it out.
And oh dear...
Review 🧵
Pre-emptive meme making ;)
Almost 150 years ago some costume designer put some horns on a helmet and today we're still fighting the myth that Vikings wore horned helmets.
So just in case...
