Lots of great info here on special education spending at both the state and local level - and how it connects to student outcomes.
Sp Ed costs account for > 20% of school budgets in PA, HI, MA, NH, CT. Identification rates are up. Some states have more staffing-heavy programs (eg NY and NH). Today’s Edunomics newsletter has the scoop:

I so appreciate the leadership of @lizbeth_bettini and others on the critically important issue of special education staffing shortages.
@AllisonFGilmour & I wrote an Ed Research for Action brief, providing leaders & policymakers advice on how to address & cope with special education staffing shortages. Kids are actively missing services right now bc of staffing problems (e.g., ).
