@mojavex1 There's been a movement towards banning images because they say that images of skeletal remains harms indigenous peoples. When my talk is up or published, I will be sure to make it available.

@Maeve0330 @Theo_TJ_Jordan Unfortunately, anthropology is becoming a field of self-study and that why we have what I call the "neotribes" of anthropology, such as the Queer Archaeology Interest Group and the Black Trowel Collective.

@josephhmanson I'm quite pessimistic because once the collections are gone, then it'll be hard to build the science back up. Also, I think that the field is so captured that even if NAGPRA was overturned, the academics would be still reburying, repatriating, and censoring!.

@BrightInsight6 No. Mainstream archaeology has gone off the rails. They're letting identity politics taint their ability to reconstruct the past. Native American myths are treated as scientific truths. And, they no longer accept that sex is binary.

Sex is binary and biological. Denying this reality hurts our chances of achieving justice for crime victims, prevents us from improving healthcare, and makes it harder to stop discrimination against women globally. This is what @AmericanAnthro and @CASCATweet are censoring!.

@clairlemon The general trends don't tell the whole story. Australia outperforms Canada and the UK (both have universal healthcare). Australian aborigines live 8 yrs shorter than white Australians. Asians in the US, who don't have universal healthcare, have the same longevity as Australians.

@HeidiBriones It was actually considered odd and even wrong at the time, which is why they lied about her age to the preacher. The marriage made the national news and, fortunately, led to changes in marriage laws. But, to portray this as the norm in 1930s America isn't really accurate.

@AJA_Cortes I lived in Cairo from 1995 to 1996. Along the Nile and in the Garden District there was quite a lot of green. In old buildings, you could find blocks with ancient hieroglyphs. The Neo Baroque style architecture was attractive. Here's a photo of the neighborhood I first lived in:

Anthropologists and archaeologists are exceedingly skilled at self-censorship; then, they use their virtue-signaling self-censorious behavior to censor their colleagues. And, in the process have ruined our ability to understand the past and understand each other.
The act of self-censoring is worse than being censored, as it’s the willful betrayal of your own mind.

@calicojack01 It's a mix of activist Native Americans & woke scholars! It's not just Native American remains that are verboten to be shown; the Smithsonian took down a website on Jamestown colonial remains even though descendant families weren't against it! But, the woke scholars knew better!.

@nytimes This article states: "Around 3,200 girls aged 13 to 19 received cosmetic breast implants in 2020, according to surveys of members of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons." When going to the source, you'll see that number includes only 18 to 19 year olds and not minors!.

Will there be outrage from feminist academics? Will there be protests at US and European universities against these new regulations? And, will universities finally stop celebrating the hijab? Will Western women speak for Islamic women who've been silenced?.

Thank you @spikedonline for giving me the opportunity to explain why this issue extends beyond academia and has real world implications.
Trans activists are rewriting history. Even ancient skeletal remains are now being classified as ‘gender neutral’ instead of male or female. Thousands of years of human history are being reshaped to conform to woke ideology, says @eweissunburied.

@MungoManic @aprebrue @mojavex1 This is an excellent question -- "their remains" really means anything that indigenous repatriation activists now try to claim! And, it goes further, these activists -- and the academics behind them -- don't want other remains to be seen as well.

@clairlemon It's difficult to assess age at death, but there's good evidence that for most of prehistory human's longevity was similar to apes -- mid-30s to early 40s. The # 1 cause of death was dental disease, resulting in blood poisoning. Here's a photo: teeth worn to stubs and abscesses.
