This would be me, if I’d lived in the 19th century. I read my book while cleaning my teeth 😂😬🪥

This is what 180 years of progress looks like! I've reproduced and updated this beautiful chart from @OurWorldInData showing life expectancy in England and Wales at different ages, since 1841. The data largely speaks for itself but I'll make a few brief observations. 🧵

Just to run the maths on this… If, as has been suggested, the first pensioner is wearing a @ROLEX that would sell second hand for £5,000, he could bank that and receive around £250 a year in interest. That’s about the same as the winter fuel payment.

This winter, pensioners will have to choose between heating and eating. And that’s on Keir Starmer.

Sunday early morning starts hit “oh it’s actually still dark when we leave the house, yay!” as of today. A bit depressing, but the stars and sky were really rather lovely this morning ✨

Just published the "tax longlist" - 29 ways Rachel Reeves could raise £22bn. I've tried to cover every serious proposal that's out there. This thread will be *long*.

Is anyone else wondering what the heck makes up the other 61% of a Tesco chicken nugget 🤢🤔

Some Tesco price-matches have lower proportions of the main ingredient than Aldi's, BBC Panorama finds.

One way to tell you’re living in a household with a middle-aged ADHD-er: frequent purchases of £5 glasses from the supermarket. Another pair has just appeared. The question is, has he just bought one?

The 14 year old has been caught sneaking upstairs with candles from the lounge. Apparently she’s going to do homework by candlelight. Give me strength. The husband has left instructions for her not to burn the house down. 😬🤞

Odd dinner alert. A melee of vegetables, topped with slightly too easy over-easy eggs, feta, coriander and chilli. Yep, it’s the day before the food shopping arrives. Tasted good but I feel like I need chocolate to finish it off. #dinner

These narratives are so exhausting & exist to both justify inequalities whilst positioning the working-class as stupid, uncultured & undeserving. So let’s take this example of ‘the seaside is free’ as an option for a family day out for a single mother of 3 kids from London.

Next quarter-final in the #WorldCup of #Breakfast is the cardiac arrest game. Sausage sandwich was the shock winner in the World Cup of sandwiches, but can it see off a giant plate of processed meat bathed in bean juice and a runny egg? You decide!

The 14 year old wanted to get a better view of the sunset we could barely see in the garden so we went out for a little drive. It was pretty spectacular.

First day back after 2.5 weeks off. This feels pretty accurate. Hoping to make it up to 17% by lunchtime.
