.@evans1_d and @Dr_GHMoen (@IMBatUQ @UniOslo_MED) used winsorisation when performing #GWAS of birthweight and discovered missense variant in the ABCC8 gene estimated to be responsible for a 170g increase in birthweight amongst carriers #DoHAD #T2D

This included a low frequency missense variant in ABCC8, a gene involved in congenital hyperinsulinism, neonatal diabetes mellitus and mature onset diabetes of the young, that was estimated to be responsible for a massive 170 gram increase in birthweight amongst carriers.

Genetics explained at least part of the correlation between low BW and increased risk of many cardiometabolic traits and diseases.

We found evidence for a separate set of genes underlying low BW compared to BW within the normal range.

We investigated if the genetic factors operating at the extremes of BW were different to those in the normal range, estimated the genetic correlation between extremes of BW and cardiometabolic disease, and investigated whether analyzing extreme BW improved ability to detect loci.
