Bezos gets to choose on a whim to destroy the Washington Post, just as Thiel can destroy Gawker, Musk can ruin Twitter, Ellison can take over TikTok, etc. Millions of others' opposition counts for near nothing.
It seems to me the value of taxing the rich is not to fund government (call me MMT, I suppose) but to compress the wealth distribution, so as to ensure those up top are not so disproportionately wealthier than others as to be able to exercise vast undemocratic power.

at risk of sounding like i’m bragging i’ve been to more countries than i have states because of the cost. intl flights can cost around the same as domestic but when im abroad i can stay in cheap hostels, eat delicious but cheap food, rely on public transit, etc tbh it’s sad!
