Activity in the M2 predicts upcoming choices. But what does the activity represent? A gaze-centered plan? A world-centered goal? A specific movement? We asked rats to plan responses to different targets from different start position to find out! 1/5 https://t.co/cnGmP2Ws2Q

“You can’t just be confident, you have to be confident about something.” Research led by @erlichlab and Xiaoyue Zhu set out to disentangle the different kinds of confidence by designing a perceptual gambling task for rodents. ⬇️ https://t.co/U1AOtc6LqO

Finally! This is the version of record; it's also the version to read, thanks to the review process at eLife. The finding was out of reach before macaque Neuropixels. @eLife: Direct observation of the neural computations underlying a single decision

Simultaneous recording from many neurons in macaque lateral intraparietal area reveals the elusive drift-diffusion signal, long suspected to underlie individual perceptual decisions and response...

The self and world centred information was multiplexed at the single neuron level as a position gain field modulating directional tuning! Read the paper to find of more details! 5/5

Consider 3 trial types. If a neuron fires the same for orange and pink (orange==pink) it is tuned to the start position. If blue == magenta it is tuned to gaze-centred direction. if blue == yellow, it is tuned for the target. 2/5

Have you ever done a dense grid search over neural network hyperparameters? Like a *really dense* grid search? It looks like this (!!). Blueish colors correspond to hyperparameters for which training converges, redish colors to hyperparameters for which training diverges.
