OTD in 1962, Maury Wills won the NL MVP Award. His record-setting stolen base total clearly impressed voters.

In 1968, the Los Angeles Dodgers drafted 11 future major leaguers—including six eventual All-Stars—who combined for 11,231 career hits and 1,139 home runs. It's the best prospect haul of all time by a long shot. https://t.co/XM896DLFhV

I worked on it for 16 months and interviewed 70 people, including players, executives, scouts, batboys, sportswriters, and clubhouse attendants. I'm beyond excited for its release.

The book covers MLB's adoption of the draft, the Dodgers post-Koufax transition, the scouts who discovered the class of '68, and the players' climb through the minors under Lasorda.

In 1970, the most of the '68 draft class—plus Charlie Hough, Tommy Hutton, and Bill Russell—played for Lasorda in Spokane, forming one of the great minor-league teams of all time. Spokane won the PCL championship over Chuck Tanner's Hawaii Islanders.

The draft class included Bobby Valentine, Bill Buckner, Steve Garvey, Ron Cey, Davey Lopes, Tom Paciorek, Joe Ferguson, Doyle Alexander, and Geoff Zahn. It's the best draft haul ever by a long shot.

Excited to reveal the cover of my forthcoming book, "Before They Wore Dodger Blue," now available for pre-order from @AugustPubs and scheduled for wide release Dec 7. It's the story of the Dodgers' historic 1968 draft class, a group developed in the minors by Tommy Lasorda.

In the spring of 1992, the Cubs cut 29-year-old non-roster invitee Jamie Moyer and offered him a job as a pitching coach. Instead, he signed with the Toledo Mud Hens, then went on to pitch 20 more years and win 235 games in the majors. A truly remarkable career.

There have been 326 no-hitters in MLB history. By contrast, there have only been 59 game sevens, none of which have involved the Mariners.
