Maybe it's just me, but some of the language in the White House's new "Nairobi-Washington Vision" statement on debt relief sounds extremely patronizing. It sounds like "high ambition" means if 'you do what we ask you to do, then you'll get the money': https://t.co/0QNiuDuynz

🎉Thank you @eric_olander and @stadenesque for a great discussion on labour relations in Sino-African construction sites. The podcast is based on the chapter I wrote with @MandiraBugzy, based on my ethnography in Lamu Port construction site in Kenya ⏬ https://t.co/9bXlyfeJKm

Few topics have shaped perceptions about China's engagement in Africa more than the presence of Chinese construction sites across the continent. Chinese contractors have built countless ports, roads,...

So, the US ambassador to Singapore wears jeans, a t-shirt, and no tie to a meeting with the Prime Minister. It would be funny if it wasn't so pathetic. What's worse is that he THINKS he looks cool. 😂

When will someone teach U.S. diplomats that it is extremely disrespectful in Asia and many other regions to show the bottom of one's shoes during meetings with VIPs? Both feet should be planted firmly on the floor. Period.

A very strong overview of BRI at ten years from @lili_pike, quite a contrast with most of the US coverage. What a difference it makes drawing on experts like @BUBeckyRay, Christoph Nedopil Wang, @eric_olander instead of pandering to great power fixations. https://t.co/X1BVzO1BYg

It's remarkable to think how much money the US State Department spends on training its diplomats and yet they still don't get that showing the soles of your shoes in the direction of your host is considered quite disrespectful in most countries. How come they don't get this?

Is it just me or did China add another dash to its controversial 9-dash line that now includes Taiwan?

This episode of the China in Africa Podcast from @eric_olander and @stadenesque is just outstanding. @EKMatambo is brilliant — and make sure to listen to the very end, about the S. African singer who killed it on a Chinese singing contest!

These articles are misleading at best. The Pew survey's 24 countries, while damning of China's efforts, only convey part of the story. Other polls in the Global South, such as the Afrobarometer & Arab Barometer, show that China is seen favorably, in fact, even more so than the US
Under Xi Jinping China has spent tens of billions of dollars to boost its soft power. Ten years later, people around the world like China less than ever. [My take] https://t.co/dbovla4Dzd

@JosephWongUT Joe - Given interest, sharing a great @ChinaGSProject p’cast on Africa/China/Russia & related topics. To my mind, @stadenesque & @eric_olander (+ @KaiserKuo) have some of the most critical, evidence-based reporting out there on #GlobalSouth & #Africa. https://t.co/KVvITegRdB

This episode was really interesting especially what @eric_olander had to say at the end about Washington having lost its nuance on China issues https://t.co/klCS25jrHF
