@lyft
totally! i often wonder if people are refusing because they see an asian face. i won't ever know for sure, but it's an extra level of anxiety to deal with when trying to commute safely.
a follow up:
i got another
@lyft
& the driver put on a mask. they did not charge me for the first ride, unmatched me from the original driver & issued a $5 credit.
however, requesting a car where a driver wears a mask should be an option, especially for the immunocompromised.
i have constant anxiety about wearing a mask on public transit for my health (currently undergoing chemo treatment) & being harassed or targeted as an asian person.
forcing communities to get back to "normal" while covid-19 is still present is dangerous for so many!
Saying "we can't mask anymore, because at some point we have to get back to normal" is racist. Asian countries have been masking for years. What is normal is taking collective action in order to protect others, especially those most vulnerable.

good thing i brought extra kleenex for the people sitting around me. another testament to the power of live theatre.

i'm sorry this happened to you, but appreciate you sharing! it's sad that any of us have to go through this, we need more people to be held accountable for spreading misinformation.
hi
@BroadwayLeague
! another round of covid cases are hitting shows again (FOH, cast, crew, etc.)
won't you please considering bringing back masks inside for broadway shows for the fall/winter?
asking for some friends and myself as an immunocompromised person!
thanks!
i've only been immunocompromised for a few months & it's already taken a toll on my mental health.
not being able to safely leave my apartment, take public transit, run errands, etc. has been tough.
a mask mandate would help alleviate this anxiety greatly!
@GovKathyHochul
If we give up on mask mandates and universal masking now, that would mean millions of higher risk wouldn't be able to fully participate in public life for years. That's unacceptable.
yet another access-a-ride driver //
@MTA
refused to wear a mask when picking me up for my paratransit today.
it shouldn't be too much to ask for drivers to wear a mask when transporting customers who are immunocompromised.
in a shared access-a-ride & explained that i am recovering from cancer & would the other passenger wear a mask:
them: "no. those things stifle me."
me: "could you at least roll down your window?"
no response. rolled my window down all the way.
@MTA
//
@NYCTSubway
we need a mask mandate for paratransit! even when we are trying to go safely from one place to another, we can't be completely safe when we are forced to share rides or have drivers who will not mask!

a successful access-a-ride trip this morning!
@MTA
the driver was early (which hardly ever happens) & although it was a shared ride - all other passengers and the driver were wearing a mask! 😷💖👏🏻
it's not just covid-19 we have to worry about, but the flu, rsv, strep...any sickness or virus can have an adverse affect on our immune systems! we are not expendable, please help protect us with a simple mask mandate on mass transit!
or minimally, let us specify when booking an access-a-ride that we want all passengers & drivers to be masked or for the option for a solo/unshared ride. that doesn't seem like too much to ask for!
as an immunocompromised asian woman living in NYC, we need to

we need masks on public transit and inside venues, so we can actively engage with our community safely! (looking at you

@itsburleigh
@lyft
i'm sorry to hear that and thank you for sharing! i was wearing two masks and kept the window rolled down on my trip home, once i got a driver who agreed to wear a mask. 👍🏻
thank you to
@BeMoreChill
for featuring not one, not two, but THREE asian actors who won’t have to have their “asianess explained” to the audience!
cheers to an amazing peformance

2022 was a tough year (my dad suddenly passed away in sept. - while i was undergoing radiation & chemo) but i hope that 2023 has better things to offer! 🥰✨🫰🏻
today's access-a-ride:
me: hi, sir! do you have a mask? i just had cancer treatment.
driver: i don't have one.
me: oh! i have several kinds. is a KF-94 ok?
driver: 🥴 (but at least he put it on)
i was able to safely receive radiation & chemotherapy treatment for several months, because of mask mandates at

- the CDC is "strongly encouraging" masking indoors! won't you help & require masks, if only at select performances?
i love the theatre, but am going through chemo and can't risk getting covid-19c the flu, RSV, etc.
Two years ago, holiday shows were impossible because of Covid. Last year, many were canceled because of Omicron. This year? Shows are back and many arts lovers are resuming traditions they have missed.

we need mask options for immunocompromised passengers who are taking AAR for their own health & safety!
just asked girl if i could sit in the disabled seating, since her food was there.
her: "this is food, i really don't want to put it on the ground."
me: "but this is the disabled persons seating & my knees are weak from chemo."
her: "you don't look like you have cancer."
@jennyyangtv
my dad used to call it "abercookie & fish" and he would always ask why i paid someone to rip up my jeans, he would do it for me for free! 🤣🤣🤣
