Paul Gait's No. 19 jersey will join his brother Gary's No. 22 in the rafters of the Dome on Saturday.
The championship-winning mindset that earned him his place there has also helped him move forward from a life-changing accident 18 months ago.

euphoria releasing week-to-week is a blessing & a curse because i don’t think i could watch a whole season consecutively without losing my mind but i’m also gonna lose my mind waiting to see what happens next
It’s going to be a while before I get to eat brunch and watch NFL football again…
because I’ve accepted a full-time job covering Syracuse football for
@syracusedotcom
/The Post-Standard and will be moving to the East Coast next month! 🍊🥳
Five of Syracuse's six incoming transfers -- Kyle McCord, Fadil Diggs, James Heard Jr., Zeed Haynes and Jackson Meeks -- are here on the sideline for the Boca Raton Bowl, decked out in Orange gear.
that’s officially the end of my rookie season. looking forward to bigger and better this offseason and beyond. 🤩
grind never stops (except i will legit be trying to stay off twitter besides to share stories now until Tuesday)!
It’s also our job as reporters to maintain our composure even when frustrated, not insult a player to their face because they don’t want to talk.
Also: He still answered the questions, and in what appears to be a pretty sincere way. Not sure why this needed to be posted.
Bucs running back Giovani Bernard didn’t want to talk to the media about what happened on the botched fake punt. Here’s that interaction.
Note: As reporters, it is our job to seek clarity on what happened, especially on the most pivotal play of a game.
BREAKING: Missouri defensive line coach Jethro Franklin has been fired, a source confirmed to the Columbia Missourian Sunday.
A spokesperson from MU has not yet responded to a request for comment.
@CoMoSports
Dino Babers took a bit of a different approach to his Monday presser. Came right off the bat and addressed the 25 second runoff (“A mistake”), Tucker’s five carries (“inexcusable”) and the penalties at the end, which he gave a long explainer on.
So, so happy to finally be able to share this news! Incredibly excited to work with the amazing staff at
@usatodaysports
this summer. And hopefully to meet all my fellow scholars in person somehow!! 💙
The J-school Facebook page felt the need to issue some corrections to this piece in a condescending and petty way earlier today. It was aimed at a single sentence about the Missourian, which was merely providing context about different MU newspapers.
Garrett Shrader: “I’ll finish my college career (at SU), I’ll say that.”
Says the plan is to return next season and that “a lot” of guys are coming back.
From Garrett Williams’ Instagram —
Pro jersey swap between two former Orange following Arizona’s 25-23 win over Atlanta on Sunday.
(With a nod to what I believe is an SU campus bar, too.)
Hello from Highmark 🤩
I’m helping out
@MattParrino
&
@RyanTalbotBills
with coverage of tonight’s Bills-Chiefs playoff game.
(Yes, I’ve pinched myself to make sure this is real.)
BREAKING: Syracuse running back LeQuint Allen has dropped his lawsuit against Syracuse University and is eligible to play for the Orange in 2023, a source told .
This is a developing story.
Props to all the sports reporters on the scene who have pivoted to covering a much different, scary situation with poise and composure.
An unfortunate example and reminder that sports journalism is not just covering games and talking to athletes. It cross sections with so much.

RB Tyler Badie is a first-team CoSIDA Academic All-American and the SEC Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He’s the first Tiger to earn the latter of those honors.
@CoMoSports
I’m saying peace out to the
#Mizzou
football beat forever and going to attempt to do the same with Twitter for the next couple weeks.
But I can’t go without saying goodbye & thank you. I’ll keep this brief if you promise to ignore how bad my baby hairs look in this pic.
Well, Adam’s tweeted about it so I guess that’s my cue. I’m officially
@TheManeater
’s new sports editor, and the first female sports editor in 26 years. I’m very excited to serve on exec board next year with
@leah1344_
as EIC and
@ZainieQureshii
as managing editor.
Dan Villari with a killer closing quote: “To be honest, a bowl game is not my standard. My standard is an ACC Championship game.”
Will transcribe the full quote and share in a bit.
🚨BREAKING: SJI welcomes its 30th class!
This class stands on the shoulders of 3 decades of women + minority journalists who found opportunities in newsrooms nationwide.
Welcome to the legacy!🎉
Meet the class of 2022:
ESPN is calling a six-day hold on announcing the game time for Syracuse-Notre Dame in Week 9. It will be a nationally broadcast game on either ABC or ESPN, though. Possible game times are noon or 3:30 p.m.
grateful to have closed the 2023 season out in the sun ☀️
thanks for following along with me for year 2, everybody!
i’m off through the start of the new year, but i’m planning a mailbag for when i’m back — so drop any Qs in my DMs or email inbox! i’ll be offline ‘til then.
So this is cool: Sounds like KJE used some of his NIL earnings to buy bags for the women's basketball team, which has been having a stellar season, and got to hand them out himself. He's been vocal about his support of the team on social media, too.
surprised
@CuseWBB
with
@Nike
shoe box bags! I want the team to know they are appreciated. I’m rooting for you to win it all! Congratulations on your achievements this season

Bisontis was recruited by Elijah Robinson and former Syracuse asst. Steve Addazio.
He was the No. 1 player in New Jersey and No. 1 interior offensive lineman in the country in 2023. Attended Don Bosco Prep.
(Feels like I'm writing a tweet like this every hour now.)
Texas A&M OL Chase Bisontis has entered the transfer portal,
@TheAthletic
has learned.
Bisontis, a true freshman, started all 12 games for the Aggies at right tackle this season. He was a top-100 recruit; he ranked No. 46 overall in the 2023 247Sports Composite.
Wore my Converse All-Stars to the presser today. Dino was in a few minutes early and gave me a detailed lesson on how his generation wore the shoes for basketball and where they’d most get worn down from playing.
@SchildScott
snapped some pics.
Syracuse’s QB room:
- Garrett Shrader
- Carlos Del Rio-Wilson
- Jacobian Morgan
- Justin Lamson
- Luke McPhail
Plenty for Beck to work with, and everyone knows his track record with turning backups into big names.
Oronde Gadsden is out at the Syracuse Boys & Girls Club tonight hanging out, signing T-shirts and chatting with the kids.
One little girl asked if he plays basketball. Fair question — he is pretty tall!
Garrett Williams is on the field and looks to be okay. Team isn't in unis yet so I'll update again then, but he's jogging around and throwing with teammates now in the kind of free period before warmups.
Chris Elmore confirms he’s not returning to Syracuse next year. Said he made up his mind pretty much right after he tore his left ACL in Week 1.
He’ll be pursuing an NFL career. 🦏
A very emotional Garrett Shrader gets to speak at the podium alone, still in his full pads.
Keeps mentioning this was his last guaranteed game of football and that he had a lot of voices in his ear telling him what he should do in regards to his health.
Source: Freshman cornerback Jeremiah Wilson has withdrawn his name from the NCAA transfer portal and will return to SU.
Have to think his decision was impacted by Duce leaving, but that's just a thought from me.
Just got off the phone with LaNorris Sellers.
Both SU offensive coordinator Robert Anae and quarterbacks coach Jason Beck got to see him win the South Carolina 4A state title last night in-person.
I’ll have a piece off our chat sometime in the next 24 hours.
on vacay for another couple days (why i’ve been quiet on here this week) but have to share some of my favorite work pics from this year for
#NGWSD2024
.
always proud to be a woman in this industry! 🥹💙
First person through the gate for Syracuse practice this morning?
Dan Villari.
(Just barely slid in before Shrader, though.)
I’ll have a couple stories up in the next few hours from brief practice observation and chatting with a few players.
Syracuse RB Sean Tucker and LB Marlowe Wax both said they’re waiting until after the season is done to make decisions about whether they’ll be trying for the NFL or sticking around for the 2023 season.
A little shade at Dan Mullen to end the press conference: Drinkwitz puts his hood up and pulls out a lightsaber before saying “May the Force be with you.”
personally, i don’t want to hear another journalism professor preach about the need to be objective and present both sides equally this year — or any time in the future.
nothing about what’s going on in our country is equal.
Stopped by
@KingjosephE
’s community event this afternoon just down the hill from the Dome. Fellow organizers and community members alike seemed excited by his desire to connect with the Syracuse community.
Plus Fran Brown and Elijah Robinson stopped by to support.
Per his Instagram (and the ‘Cuse football account), LB Marlowe Wax will be back next season.
Can’t say that’s much of a surprise — he seemed to take over Mikel Jones’ “face of the defense” duties for the Pinstripe Bowl.
Almost the last out of the press box tonight.
Podcast with
@BrentAxeMedia
is done. Story on Dan Villari’s big evening is up on
@syracusedotcom
with
@SchildScott
photos. More coverage in the next 24-48 hours.
Time for an NYC drink, though!
Not to get buried by the big news of the night:
LeQuint Allen, Marlowe Wax and Jack Stonehouse landed on the All-ACC teams announced by the conference.
Justin Barron and Chris Bleich received honorable mentions.
Note from Fran Brown today: Syracuse is looking for about 10 more walk-ons to max out the team's 120 roster spots.
"Anybody at the school who can play football, you can catch the football, you can block another human, come here..."
Try-outs will be sometime after spring ball.
And for y’all crying paywall: You wouldn’t be getting any of this info if we couldn’t afford to have me down here in Boca Raton. Journalism is a service, and again, I give you a lot for free. 🙄
if you think it’s acceptable for an athlete, coach, fan or ANYONE to refer to a female sports journalist as “babe” while responding to said journalist’s question… pls reevaluate.
Chatted with 2019 World Cup winner Jessica McDonald (
@J_Mac1422
) earlier this week.
The only mom on the USWNT squad in 2019, McDonald is now a veteran among many athlete-mothers in the NWSL. Oh, and her son Jeremiah? He's the "kid leader."

just submitted my first big-girl job application. 😳
i still have a semester of school left, but if anyone knows of any openings in the sports journalism world (nfl/cfb/women's sports/culture would be my preferences), please send them my way. TIA!
ok everyone, sleep tight! early signing day tomorrow and judging by the past two weeks it will likely end up very busy. eat a good breakfast in the morning, too, for good measure.
He appeared on Sports Center when he was 8 and was the country's No. 1 recruit 10 years later.
Now, he wears Syracuse's No. 22.
On
@SpallinaJoey
, the lax prodigy who's laid a foundation his freshman year " to bring ‘Cuse back to the promised land":
I beg y’all to click links and read stories.
I share a lot of info on here with you, but I’m not going to put it all — defeats the purpose of writing the stories. I mention Cruz in the piece.
NEWS: Ohio State transfer QB Kyle McCord is moving on from Nebraska,
@PeteNakos_
reports.
The former Buckeyes signal-caller will keep his transfer portal recruitment open👀
One final one Syracuse! Let’s go out the right way. I couldn’t be any happier then the decision I made 4 years to come here. So many highs and lows, with so many lessons taught. Syracuse nation this one’s for y’all 🍊
Per his Instagram, New Jersey running back Yasin Willis is committed to Syracuse. Had previously been committed to Pitt.
Second commit out of the OV weekend.
not the j-school forgetting they still have a whole class of seniors that went through the old curriculum and making it near impossible to enroll for classes 🥴
I chatted with
@JamesTremble2
and
@noahrosahac76
this afternoon about the hour-long Zoom call new Syracuse head coach Fran Brown held with c/o '24 commits last night.
"He was probably the realest coach that’s talked to me in my recruiting process."
Syracuse University has officially announced Fran Brown as its 31st head football coach.
There will be a press conference to introduce him Dec. 4.
“Fran has clearly articulated a vision for the future of our football program."

SU had its team banquet last night. Here are the award recipients I've seen.
Tim Green Award (Most Outstanding D-Lineman): Caleb Okechukwu
Bill Maxwell Award (Most Improved – Offense): Oronde Gadsden II
Coach Mac Award (Passion & Intensity): Mikel Jones
This is about the disregard the J-school pays to a publication that allows students to practice the skills they are learning in classes. It's made us painfully aware that we "aren't a part" of it, but we are still a part of MU. We matter.
The ACC has announced teams will wear helmet decals and hold a moment of silence Saturday in honor of UVA's Lavel Davis Jr., Devin Chandler and D'Sean Perry.
Here's a look at the decals, which feature the Virginia logo.
