"Nobody was suspended from their party for breaking the whip between 1983 and 2019". This is quite the stat if it's right.
@AbdiDuale_ Was this true before July 2024, or not? Nobody was suspended from their party for breaking the whip between 1983 and 2019 - and the fact that the Tories did it a few times between 2019 and 2022 isn't a recommendation.

Counterpoint: no it fucking doesn't.
Very pleased to see the government continuing the £1million investment in chess that we launched when I was Prime Minister. Chess isn’t just a great game. It also builds the kind of skills young people need to thrive in an increasingly complex and competitive world.

I was thinking what this reminded me of, and it's the first of the EHRC's hostile findings against Labour (an organisation's responsibility for statements by its officials) in so far as it's a standard I've never seen applied before and don't expect to see applied in the future.

Someday, somebody will write a book detailing all the incredible, dishonest nonsense that appeared in the media during Corbyn's time. It will be mocked and panned by the critics if it is reviewed at all, and everything in it will be true.
The "Labour Antisemitism" Panorama had an interview where a Labour staffer said that a member had asked him "where are you from, are you from Israel?" and an *actual recording* of that same interview showed that she said "where are you from? I mean, which branch are you from?".

I had forgotten, or more likely never knew, that Howard Jacobson played such a contemptible (if minor) role in this, and I confess I could not be less surprised.
My friend @yasmin_khan on the murder of Jean Charles de Menezes by the police, the lies they told about it, and the long fight for truth 👇 . It makes me so angry to this day. Thank you to the family and Yasmin for refusing to be silenced.

And yet for me, growing up in Seventies, the assumption was that things would get better in every way. There were crises all the time but nevertheless, it was generally thought that people would work less, retire earlier, live easier, longer and more secure lives.
I don't remember any politicians telling me I can have it all, or indeed anything. Almost my entire adult life has been all the parties telling me that things we used to have (affordable housing, stable jobs, free uni, an occasional visit to the dentist) are completely impossible.
