Socialist fogey. Prefers cats to people. Either stand up for things or shut up complaining. Populariser of the phrase 'these fucking people'.

Hi. How are you all? Me, I’m pretty sick at the moment, I have been for about five weeks, and I don’t know why.

"Nobody was suspended from their party for breaking the whip between 1983 and 2019". This is quite the stat if it's right.

@AbdiDuale_ Was this true before July 2024, or not? Nobody was suspended from their party for breaking the whip between 1983 and 2019 - and the fact that the Tories did it a few times between 2019 and 2022 isn't a recommendation.

Whwt would you get for, say, organising an insurrection where frontbenchers resigned on the hour for two days.

Very pleased to see the government continuing the £1million investment in chess that we launched when I was Prime Minister. Chess isn’t just a great game. It also builds the kind of skills young people need to thrive in an increasingly complex and competitive world.

I was thinking what this reminded me of, and it's the first of the EHRC's hostile findings against Labour (an organisation's responsibility for statements by its officials) in so far as it's a standard I've never seen applied before and don't expect to see applied in the future.

Someday, somebody will write a book detailing all the incredible, dishonest nonsense that appeared in the media during Corbyn's time. It will be mocked and panned by the critics if it is reviewed at all, and everything in it will be true.

The "Labour Antisemitism" Panorama had an interview where a Labour staffer said that a member had asked him "where are you from, are you from Israel?" and an *actual recording* of that same interview showed that she said "where are you from? I mean, which branch are you from?".

Nurse came to check my blood pressure a bit earlier, said it was unusually high and she'll check again later. If it's gone down by then I'm not sure how I'm going to explain "you came in while I was playing rapid chess on my phone and I was worried I was going to lose on time".

It's a funny thing but when a bunch of soon-to-be-ex-Labour-MPs formed a soon-to-be-defunct political party early in 2019, I don't seem to recall a load of screaming about how they were splitting the Labour vote.

I had forgotten, or more likely never knew, that Howard Jacobson played such a contemptible (if minor) role in this, and I confess I could not be less surprised.

My friend @yasmin_khan on the murder of Jean Charles de Menezes by the police, the lies they told about it, and the long fight for truth 👇 . It makes me so angry to this day. Thank you to the family and Yasmin for refusing to be silenced.

Does anybody think this would be happening in a party which was democratically accountable to its members? What conclusions do you draw from this?.

And yet for me, growing up in Seventies, the assumption was that things would get better in every way. There were crises all the time but nevertheless, it was generally thought that people would work less, retire earlier, live easier, longer and more secure lives.

I don't remember any politicians telling me I can have it all, or indeed anything. Almost my entire adult life has been all the parties telling me that things we used to have (affordable housing, stable jobs, free uni, an occasional visit to the dentist) are completely impossible.

As it happens, as a student I once shouted, from the back of a meeting he was addressing, "you're a bastard, Tebbit, but one day we're going to get you". I don't do that stuff any more and to my mind it was more than a bit OTT, but I can't honestly say I'm that ashamed either.
