Something I learned as a grad organizer is how power closes ranks to protect itself from external threats. I remember being shocked at the extent to which power will turn a blind eye to abuse in order to maintain control. It was a lesson I'll never forget.

UCI students held their encampment for two full weeks, hosting teach ins and scheduled lecture and prayer times. They fed their fellow students and community members. It was consistently peaceful.
