I once heard @tressiemcphd say that the best scholars are good storytellers. All of my favorite sociologists were ones who wrote the South. I wanted to follow in that tradition & use storytelling to bear witness on NC to use words honestly, beautifully . https://t.co/OCUNf5Qq2R

Friends— here it is. Updated & expanded thanks to the space afforded to me in @the_rumpus & with the brilliant @rgay's edits. Mamdani’s win centers Muslims humanity — but what does that mean in a country that rejects it? https://t.co/nLmzONAIg5
I am so upset. Last week Time Magazine solicited a piece from me on Zohran Mamdani & anti-Muslim hate. I pitched a framing re the dehumanization of Muslims & how Mamdani’s inclusive, socialist campaign in its content resists that. They agreed. I wrote the piece. 1/

Black Studies would like a word
In a new quantum experiment, scientists saw something that challenges everything we think we know about time. Instead of flowing forward like a river, time seemed to loop and fold back on itself. Particles behaved as if their future could affect their past, blurring the line

This year I wrote a book about how Columbus colonized the Caribbean in 1492 - not what is now the US mainland. My book DARK LABORATORY celebrates Kalinago survivance and the African agrarian x aquatic traditions people like my ancestors who were enslaved brought to the region.

Most companies chase no-code. These guys did the opposite. Instead of replacing engineers, @timgdelisle & @chriscrane, Co-Founder Fiveonefour, built tools that make devs 10x faster. Here’s what we discussed: • Why “developer-first” beats “no-code” • How simplifying code

A lot of academia is just folks trying to perform being smart like long irrelevant questions after talks, unnecessarily critical reviews, & sounding like a journal article in social settings when folks just chilling. There are different ways of being interesting in these settings

debates are fine for people whose humanity, health, & bodies are not immediately on the line and in question.

Colonialism was not just theft. It was the invention of a moral language to make theft look like salvation.

I never once saw Kirk change his mind based on an argument a student shared with him nor saw students that disagreed with him leave feeling empowered. Stop passing off his debates as promoting mutual understanding when it was simply about win-lose clickbait material.

Just because you debate a lot, doesn’t mean you are good at it.

Kirk justified gun deaths in America & spoke horribly about the dead if they had different beliefs than him. The right holds the rest of us to a higher moral standard than Kirk, while comparing him to Jesus. It’s a shame they think so low of the legacy of Christ.

Im not sure if white Americans ask their grandparents what they did when Black people were hung & denied into their schools. But when the little ones in my family grow up, i hope they are concerned enough to ask me what I did when America funded a genocide & I give a brave answer

i received years of training to be able to research and better name the violences of the this world but run the risk of punishment for naming the violences that are so obvious that i didn't need my training to recognize it as such
