the fact is, if you tell people "liberalism means you have to allow infinity muslim rape gangs into your country and get racially discriminated against while kids get weird sex propaganda" no one is going to be convinced of anything except "liberalism is shit" way to go liberals

if you want to keep liberalism, which i also would prefer to do, my advice would be to embrace "not these policies" as a liberal. because people care an awful lot more about this object level stuff than meta rationales abt why everyone has to live in third worldist shitholes

@eigenrobot Thereโs a few hundred years of liberalism to pick from though, instead of becoming illiberal one can simply become say, an 1880s-1890s liberal.

@eigenrobot I don't think liberalism will save itself simply by disavowing "infinity Muslim rape gangs". You surely understand that this is only a symptom. The ideology is fundamentally rotten.

@eigenrobot People can vaguely grasp this concept but only if itโs put into cute webcomic form and misrepresent Popperโs argument and pretend it only applies to right wing Americans

@eigenrobot A rightism that says "We don't have a plan for half the population" is arguably less appealing than this.

@eigenrobot yeah if a large group of y'all could drop those things and the whole murder about a 6th of all babies thing, a lot of us would be happy to compromise on tax code or food stamps or maternity leave or whatever not holding my breath

@eigenrobot These fucking pedo-cucks aren't even liberal, too... which is hilarious. The definitional embodiment of Popper's Paradox via suicidal compassion.

@eigenrobot The left has completely tainted the word liberal. It used to just be tied to liberty, i.e. freedom, but the left twisted it into something disgusting by asserting that equality-promoting authoritarianism was "liberal".

@eigenrobot everyone in comments telling you "@someone" posted about this. Well, yeah, and you've posted about it. for years. THING IS. we just came out of a SOLID DECADE (13 years, actually) where calling out any stupidity or excesses of liberalism could get you not only labeled a N*zi

@eigenrobot At each stage of this type of liberalism, the types of illiberalism you're willing to tolerate expands as the manmade horrors you didn't even know were possible pop up.

@eigenrobot I wonder if a contributing factor is a kind of race to the bottom with them where the weirdest most deranged person is seen as the most valiant because theyโre a โmarginalized personโ and therefore has the authority to speak for the liberal group because theyโre cannot be wrong

@eigenrobot I basically hold the proposition that liberalism is dead, and what people call "liberalism" is the authoritarian progressivism that killed it, wearing its skin so tight that authoritarian progressivism thinks it's liberalism.

@eigenrobot Modern Liberalism is ๐ณ๏ธโ๐๐ณ๏ธโโง๏ธโ๏ธโ๐ฟ๐ tribal war against white men & โช, plus communistic socialism. That's the whole of what it is. It's just communism transmuted & adapted to an American audience.

@eigenrobot Yeah. Even given a liberal-leftist distinction, liberals still have to answer for a lot. We seem mostly incapable of taking the "view from nowhere" and saying that a system is good even if it is imperfect, and then doing what is necessary to keep that system running.

@eigenrobot The trend since the second world war has been that whenever positive liberty (freedom to) is pitted against negative liberty (freedom from), positive liberty gets institutional backing. This is of course results in:

@eigenrobot A thought: "functioning alcoholics exist, therefore we should reduce the barriers to drinking" and people being very good at surface philosophical consistency at the expense of the point of the philosophy Insufficient responsibilities being tied to freedoms
