The food sovereignty movement needs Food First to not only continue with their important mission, but we also need the Board to live up to it in words and actions. I also ask fellow supporters to email the Board at info@foodfirst.org with the same request. Rosalinda Guillen

This is unacceptable, in solidarity with others, I also call upon all over-term board members to immediately and respectfully step down. To make room for new younger leadership.

However, it has become clear to me that certain prominent and longstanding board members, all of whom are over their term limits, wish to unilaterally and undemocratically change the mission and direction.

For 45 years, Food First has played a critical role on a national level, supporting grassroots movements for justice in our food system through research and analysis.

We see this kind of treatment across our food system and non-profits, but for an organization that claims to champion values of dignity and justice for all, in my opinion the Food First Board is not being honest with themselves and thousands of loyal supporters like me.

Even when I was on the board, I experienced certain board members, specifically men, become aggressive toward me, including raising their voice at me, when I tried to propose the implementation of board term limits.

As a former farmworker and currently an Executive Director of an organization, I see clearly that Food First's Board of Directors are grossly mismanaging the organization and creating undemocratic and undignified working conditions for staff.

The hiring of Jahi to Food First gave many organizations in the movement confidence that with his leadership the talented and committed staff at Food First would be able to thrive along with the organization.
