The Oxford Dictionary for National Biography entry on Thomas Osborne (1632-1712) may be the most persuasive argument for getting a cat out there.

there is, amusingly, a Pāli phrase for “touch grass”: “haritāni tiṇāni āmaseyyāsi” (literally “rub fresh grass”) [said to be one of the practices recommended for purification by western brahmins in AN 10.176]

• Two 19th Vietnamese paintings portray the Biblical Day of Judgment, when the dead rise and the Lord returns in glory to lead the righteous to the Kingdom of Heaven, reflecting a striking convergence of Western Christian imagery and Eastern artistic sensibility✝️ #Vietnam #越南

It does exist indeed! And even more! Apparently there is a whole sub-genre of post-war Sanskrit Marxist-Leninist poetry 🤯: ‘Kewalanand Sharma wrote a poem titled, “Lenin-kusumāñjaliḥ.” Shivadatta Sharma authored a kāvya, Karl Marx-śatakam, …’

One odd thing about the classics in the United States is that you ended up with "hillbilly intellectuals" and JD Vance comes from that tradition. The thing about an education based on the Great books is that you just have to take two or three books into the frontier.

This example comes from the 2021 edn of the 永經堂 almanac fom Hong Kong: It is notable for 1- using "Suzhou" numbers for the taels https://t.co/x2YHEzZeDw 2- Not going up to 7.2 taels: The entries stop at 7.1 taels

I tend to be wary of this characterisation, but you can’t help feeling that this 19th c. Indian Qadam Rasul ceremony/festival is very Dharmic: sandalwood paste's applied to the footprint, food's offered to it, then distributed; ghee lamps lit, music; there's a statue of Buraq?

The veneration of footprint reliquaries is a pratice that Islamic devotional culture historically shared with Buddhism and Hinduism. It is therefore not very surprising that shrines housing the Prophet's footprints are rather abundant in Muslim South Asia.
