A tree needs hundreds of years to grow this big. Taking billions of tons co2 out of the air.
It can be cut down within one hour.
And we need another hundreds of years for this effect, trees have for the environment
The difference between robbing the environment & robbing a bank to achieve short term wealth,

When the
#fires
burned out, I truly hope you find a way to plant new trees. Remember:trees cool down the temperatures on
#earth
. All the green is taking co2 out of the air, and giving oxygen in return. We all need (more) fresh air.

People walk by, looking like nothing is wrong. Why so many people have no idea that
#ClimateCrisis
is directly linked to
#overpopulation
? Having 2,3 sometimes 4 kids... poor children!
Achieving sustainability requires a sustainable population size, as stated by renowned biologist E.O. Wilson in his 1999 book 'The Diversity of Life'. Without a sustainable population, sustainability cannot be achieved.

The best action people can do for the climate, or against this fast changing, is having less children.. so less trees need to be out, less environment damaged, less pollution, more nature. We keep adding 65 million every year! (240.000 every day)
This poster is being displayed at 30 spots in the city of Arnhem within 3 weeks. It's saying "poor child"... "nature is burning, devastating floods, destroying hurricanes through higher ocean temperatures. Still: your parents think it's fair to bring you into the world.

Do you propose Ugandans live in poverty forever?
Do you think CC is the only issue we face?
We have lost so much in the last 50-100 years, & for the most part this is primarily
#overpopulation
.
CC is only just beginning to bite.
As beekeeper, but only the natural way with honeybees, it's always been one of my first concerns. Within a period of 30 years (1985-2015) the decline in numbers appeared to be 76%!!! My first thought was: what was the reason they started counting the insects? What occurred?
Insects!! are in silent decline globally - yet we rarely discuss these trillions of tiny creatures who comprise the foundation of Earth's ecosystem functions. Joining me today to give a (butterfly's eye) overview is Professor Nick Haddad. Important topic:
And so it is. Often I've said: there are too many of us, growth needs to become de-growth. All partial "solutions " are no solutions at all. Where will we grow our food, when everything is build, full with houses and industrial buildings? How will we drink, when there's no water?
I see the "partial solutions will do" brigade aren't so keen on "Planet of the Humans".
What I took out of it was just how seriously into overshoot we have gone, how urgently we need net
#degrowth
of the world economy, followed by a Steady State Economy.
The problem with understanding planetary impact is that your little impact seems insignificant,
... until you understand that (depending on the action), there are thousands, millions, even billions doing the same thing!
It's not JUST overpopulation that CAUSES climate change. But it's definitely a HUGE factor. We are IN OVERSHOOT, over 8 billion humans using more of the planet (1.8 times) than she sustainable can give. This causes climate change,food shortages,water scarcity etc.

How many environmentalists blame overpopulation and without seeing it as one component that needs to be put into context? I don't think there are that many. They are certainly not environmentalists. Perhaps they are using environmentalism as a facade.
The severity of the

... which is just one of many symptoms of a world addicted to "Growth".
We are selling our future to prop up an unsustainable present
“When men want babies more than women.” They want the baby, but still haven’t been socialized to understand wanting a baby means wanting the rearing work that goes along with it. If you want life as usual, you do NOT want a baby.
@ClimateBen
I realised it many, many years ago. With my age, 52, I've noticed so many changes already. But also: so many -so called- scientists, who deny it. With their reports based on nothing! While
#Nature
shows us: we choose the wrong path of
#Growth
, instead
#Sustainability
Where will the food imported from, with this continued growth? In the Netherlands, the most overpopulated part of

, the next 10 years there will be build 850.000 houses. Imagine what impact it has on everything. Already now, it's impossible to stop temperature rising
Had my first PowerPoint presentation today. First I was a bit nervous, but then I got exited about the questions the school kids asked. They knew a lot about

How come, that still many people think: "the more we produce, the better for climate"?? While we have already built more stuff than all natural beings on Earth combined!

Yep. There still are people saying "plenty of room!" (They forget the lack of resources, like food, water, and loss of biodiversity)
@GretaThunberg
@Karmageddon67
Yes, it's vague. Ever wondered, how "growth " can maintain on a finite planet. We grew to 7.800.000.000 people already. And only the last 55 years we added 4.700.000.000. Strange huh, that climate changes! More consumers, less forests, more pollution etc etc.
#oneplanetonechild
When I was a younger kid, Internet just was born. I discovered that 'they' knew there was an overpopulation problem. So I asked mom, "what can we do about it, it's horrible. Species extinct, climate will change...". She said: don't worry about it. Life a happy life". aaargh🤯😱
During a very windy day, my neighbor

Why do countries always wanna be the best, the biggest? Why this contest? Why matters the scale of an economy? So.. now you have "the biggest". Now what?

Nothing wrong with that suggestion. Don't let the deniers be part of your thoughts. You and I know, the truth might not be nice, but still is the truth.

I agree
It is hard for the few

You know: many, too many younger people don't know how it was. They live in the world, older people created. So
Their standard is the standard of today.
They cannot recognize the changes on the planet. Only the older adults know.
It seems to be so...
That is why I try harder to save our planet from "too many of us".
And keep saying

Despite a declining fertility rate, the Dutch population maintains growing. We cannot keep up the speed, building more than ever before.... the government started to push up the number of immigrants and foreign students. Students mostly stay here for the rest of their live.
@martinrev21
I can remember that there were no traffic jams. It was in early '80s. To do something about the traffic jams when they appeared, more roads were constructed. It didn't help. The number and length grew. "While we grew economically". No: we got

Yes, true, because of the "endless" growth, and the desperate willing of it, the problems we face today are all symptoms of it. All caused by too many, and too much. Keep making people aware of it.
I say there's no bigger issue than the "Limits to Growth",
Others say the
#ClimateEmergency
is bigger.
But isn't
#climatechange
just one of countless symptoms of "growth" beyond sustainable limits?
So isn't tackling "economic growth" the key to tackling the
#ClimateCrisis
?
@ClimateBen
"Proof" is all around us: look at the trees... many, many are dying. Water level is lower than ever before. Farmers cannot feed us since a long time. If the country isn't "rich", the supermarkets will be empty. Buying food from world market. Poor countries can not buy that food..
@martinrev21
Because of our global growth, we need to build more houses every day. When we grow with 100 a day, we need 50 houses to build. Unfortunately, we grow worldwide with 240.000 every day..
Can you imagine? Still, there are many, many people refusing to understand the real situation!
I hear them saying:"well, it probably isn't as bad as you say". Do they come from Mars??
@GJockChurchman
We are no longer the 'lucky country' that time has long since passed.
Not sure how you see this panning out, but I do not see Australia having the surplus capacity to welcome millions of climate refugees.. I see our own land in decline & decay, with millions suffering.

@martinrev21
@PopnMatters
@ExtinctionR
You know the answer, don't you? It's always a matter of making money. With more people to pay taxes, by consumption etc. It also seems to be, the more people, the more opinions, the harder to speak about it. Something "ethical ".
I think, cause of ethics, we fall off the cliff
Well, I know that healthy trees give oxygen to the area, while CO² is taken in return. Didn't we have too much CO² worldwide, what rises earth temperatures??
And
Don't we need O² to breathe.
When temperatures rise and getting less rain, , I already see many trees die.
While we focus on GHG emissions,
... I wonder what effect clearing all the

has had on land surface temperatures,
& the winds which sweep eastwards from Australia's inland?

issue.
How come, that so many people don't believe in climate disaster? So many people miss the connection with

By simply saying 'it's not true'. On what planet do you live, what changes need to be "proven'? And still choosing for having (more than one) children.

Residents of Flint, MI & Denmark, SC still face a water crisis. America is one of the wealthiest countries on the planet. It's a disgrace that we can’t guarantee access to clean water for everyone.
As president, I'm prepared to declare a clean drinking water emergency.

Well, some people only believe the science that fit them best... if science proves something they don't like, they don't believe science anymore..

The problem, my opinion, is the everlasting growth of corporations. More production requires more workers. More people to feed need more and bigger supermarkets etc. More older people require more healthcare professionals. Etc. We see it in NL, more refugees need more housing etc
Monsieur Macron, that's a horrible idea 👎.
We're in the midst of a biodiversity AND climate crisis, with🏭Industrial activity responsible for ∼50% of climate emissions & for more than 90% of biodiversity loss.
