Remember:. 1. The oceans are being killed. 2. Forests will soon be gone. 3. Fertile soil is disappearing. 4. Megafauna risk extermination. 5. Insects are vanishing. 6. Climate chaos is inevitable. 7. Extinction is now. 8. Plastic is in our blood. None of this is front page news.

we are not even moving in the right direction, let alone at the required pace. Earth is crossing the threshold of 1.5°C of warming, according to two major global studies which together suggest the planet's climate has likely entered a frightening new phase.

COLLAPSE/EXTINCTION: scientists fear global warming of 3.5°C, which wipes out 33-70% of species (IPCC AR4 2007, IPCC AR6 2022), will likely hit by the 2060s give or take a decade or two 🧵.

try not to forget: nothing's being done to stop habitat and wildlife destruction or pollution; scientists fear global warming extreme enough to wipe out 33-70% of species by 2050-90

4. Dr.James Hansen and Leon Simons warn of 4-5°C by the 2090s. Simons points out 3°C by 2045 is possible. Michael Mann and colleagues say 2-4°C is "very likely" by the 2090s. Most scientists expect 2.4-3.6°C by 2100 but no doubt fear 3.5°C by around the 2060s-80s or soon after.

3. Ramanathan warned of warming at 3.5/4°C by 2050 in an extreme worst-case scenario. IPCC climate models: 3.5°C from 2055 is plausible. '3C or more of heating by 2050': a real risk according to recent research with Prof Tim Lenton:.

2. A new pre-print from highly respected climate scientists implies 3.5°C by 2065-77 at current rates of warming. The authors warn this rate could increase or decrease perhaps suggesting 3.5°C by around 2055-2087 rather like IPCC high emissions scenarios.

1. IPCC scenario SSP3-7.0 shows 3.5°C by 2080 or from 2062 (not the worst-case scenario). Even a moderate emissions scenario can lead to 3.5°C this century (new research shows 2060s-80s possible). Species extinct IPCC:.3.5C 40-70% 2007.3C 29%, 4C 39% 2022.

Remember. 1. deforestation alone is enough to cause mass extinction within decades. 2. global warming of 4.75/5.25°C alone is enough to cause mass extinction within decades. 3. wildlife killing alone (overfishing, pollution, pesticides, etc) is enough. Mass media won't explain.

Capitalism is keeping its promise to rapidly obliterate ecosystems and accelerate mass extinction as leading financial institutions continue to fund the rapid destruction of Earth's rainforests. 🧵.

Big mammals face 21st century extinction. Surviving increased deforestation as capitalism takes us to 1.9- 2.1°C of global warming and rising will be impossible for 20- 75% of mammal species. Rethink food, energy, and everything. 🧵.

33% of species currently risk extinction according to the IUCN Red List when data deficient species are included. Scientists fear unstoppable (to a degree) warming and ecosystem collapse are here. Deforestation alone can wipe out 66% of species in decades.

Remember:. 1) 20% of mammals extinct within years. 2) 50- 75% extinct within decades . Change this Extinction Economy now while it's still too late to protect species and everyone. 🧵.

It turns out that there are only a few known ways, demonstrated in the entire geologic history of the Earth, to liberate gigatons of carbon from the planet’s crust into the atmosphere: once-every-50m-years-or-so spasms of large igneous province volcanism.and industrial capitalism

scientists: given capitalism, the majority of us fear more pollution, habitat & wildlife destruction, and warming of 3/3.5°C by 2060-2120, so up to 40-70% of species wiped out.
