The Kiss is my 2024 Valentines Day project. It uses a multiple machine learning models to extract scenes with kissing from ~200 romance films. You can watch all 2.5 hours of it on my Vimeo channel:
Musk firing a bunch of people on H1Bs the day before thanksgiving when absolutely no one will be doing interviews for the next week is another one of those cruelties that just show who he is
All the hoops these people jumped thru, and likely the long hours they put in because it was demanded of them, and he still did them zero favors. Just an absolutely shitty person.
I also assume he did it yesterday because there would be a lot less press and tweeting about it but jokes on you buddy I tweet the most when trying to avoid family
I don’t disagree with people saying this isn’t a terrible UX pattern to ask more companies to do, but you also can’t say "twitter needs to make money somehow!" and then shoot a rev model in the foot like the richest man in the world is currently.
Gonna try doing a livestream this Friday at noon EST. I know lots of makers are worried about finances so I’m gonna talk about using Google Colab to play with Machine Learning image-making (for ~free). If Friday goes well I’ll try to make it a ~weekly thing.
looking to put up some new tutorials on my youtube page. anyone interested in some after effects expressions to do stuff like this? (the alternating part, not the SD part)
I’ve been trying to keep my mouth shut on the whole Intuit/Mailchimp thing, which you know is very hard for me! But honestly I can’t anymore. This has been a disaster and a slap in the face of MC employees.
im experimenting with GAN rewriting this week and I dont like the changes when the learning rate is applied but i do love the raw combined activations. I might just turn this into its own thing.
As a new batch of people get into ML Art/image making, its important to point out ML is "conservative" (read into that politically however you want). It is always based on past data (1 year, 100 years, etc) so it will never truly envision "the future"
A breakout web3 musician will not be ranked by plays or monthly listeners.
They will be ranked by floor price, trading volume, unique holders and treasury balance.
New frame of reference 👀
that USPS antigen test page was one of the easiest sign up experiences ever. No account verification, no captchas. hats off to whatever UX/tech team got that in just the way it is.
here’s what I’ve been working on for the past week. Currently looks at ~570k images and finds the nearest match using openpose body_25b. (use 25b—it is light years better, dunno why it doesnt ship with it by default)
I probably have another 2x of data to process, if not more.
I have a new website of my ML artwork. Big thanks to
@KevinZweerink
! If you’re an AD looking for something weird, maybe get in touch? Would love to work on some new projects this year.
And new classes listed there and open for registration!
if AI Art is theft but fanfic isn’t you’ve got yourself a very narrow tightrope you’re walking. not acknowledging the human involved when using these tools is pretty disheartening. I get that many of you don’t like the *type* of person using them (90% of the time I’m with you).
I am very healthy (knock on wood). But this company employs parents, people with chronic illnesses. You just sold this company for 12 billion dollars and you want your employees to pay for medical costs???
It’s an absolutely terrible way to treat your workers.
Intuit is now asking all MC employees pay medical costs out of pocket until their health insurance retroactively becomes available. As COVID rages on, as kids return to school. You have to pay medical costs and hope it gets reimbursed quickly.
Calling people amateurs because they just started making art with ai is so fucking annoying. Lots of artists aren’t trying to become professionals they just have a need to create stuff. Let them experiment!
Shopify deleted 12,000 meetings this year.
Today, they went a step further with a tool that shows the $$$ cost of holding meetings.
I spoke to
@CanadaKaz
(Shopify's COO) about meeting bloat and protecting craft time.
Here are 6 spicy takes from our interview 👇
very little worse than dumb people using tools that arent properly vetted. That Open AI and others continue to use ChatGPT as a "truth telling" device continues to frustrate the shit out of me.
Report of a teacher who seems to think running portions of a student’s essay through ChatGPT will allow ChatGPT to tell them if the AI wrote the paper. ChatGPT lies and will just give you an answer that may not be true!
Bryan Johnson 45-year-old founder of Braintree Payment Solutions which also owned Venmo sold his companies to PayPal in 2013 for $800 Million. Johnson just revealed that he spends $2 million per year to retain youth and he uses his teenage son as what he calls his ‘blood boy.’
This thing about the “rest of the painting” ai images is it’s really good shitposting. We don’t look at a funny tweet and be like “you’re ruining moby dick”
I’m legit not trying to be a dick here, but how do people have time to play video games? It seems like some of you even have time for video games AND tv.
Co-worker said his first grader has to use zoom and upload assignment with a phone (he doesn’t have a smartphone—he’s 6) and I’m reminded just how bad edtech is.
seeing people who i really respect with the "all AI art is theft" is pretty sad. it shows a complete non-interest in the field and a lack of even the most basic interest in new forms of creativity.
No MC employee asked to take on this risk. We were all minding our business working our jobs. Ben and Dan chose to sell the company and put families, children, and sick employees at risk. It is an absolute slap in the face to the workers of Mailchimp.
I’m still really mad about this. It highlights how easy it is for well paid executives ad higher ups to completely miss the reality of their staff. Support staff, early stage employees and new hires are all taking the hit here.
well i’m fucked. my basement is flooded. there’s probably about 10k in damage to my computers alone. can’t wait to see how my renters insurance tries to avoid covering it
If you make generative art and don’t sell NFTs drop a link to your work. It’s a RT Christmas. (And if you sell your work be sure to include a link to it)
its getting tiresome to see these NFT folks just jack projects when all they need to do is acknowledge their sources and githubs. its almost like stealing/the grift is the part they like the most about it.
