Engineering is not a democracy. Engineering is groups of technical stewards, deeply studying a {system’s needs, risks, intended outcomes} and endorsing solutions. These groups exist in a (hopefully) open market place in which users judge by the historical quality which is best.
If obliterating the OP_Return cap is such a good idea with “so much broad consensus”, why were only 28 reviewers in favor (ACK) and 56 opposed (NACK)?. This is a very controversial change with twice as many reviewers opposed than in favor. Core ignored the reviewers. Why?
