Don't kid yourselves, CEOs aren't remotely close to being warlords. They are more like priests and in some rare cases shamans. This speaks to how few people today really understand violence.
Can't remember who said something like: If not for capitalism CEOs would be warlords. I thought the idea had a modicum of legitimacy, but was weak & small. All intellectual endeavors have probably led to an incalculable amt of peace, incl. the study of war & the shitty ones.

Don’t be surprised if China offers Terry Tao the chair of the mathematics department at Tsinghua University. And all the funding he wants. Because it is possible for the US to fumble the bag as the destination for global talent. And indeed it is fumbling that bag right now.
The Trump administration has suspended the funding of Terence Tao and the Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics at UCLA.
