This paper identifies clear patterns in the responses of the bereaved. the formation of delusional narratives that place them at the centre of blame for the death. These narratives impact well-being, increase the risk of mental illness and elevate suicidality.

After hearing many stories of deaths by suicide and of clinicians’ emotional responses to them, patterns or ‘truths’ started to appear. We became aware that what we were discovering about suicide did not correspond with what we were being told in the wider social environment.
