this isn't what interpolation means in music, and the actual thing is an interpolation method so the mathematical analogy checks out.
I realise this is the most pathetically trivial thing you could possibly get annoyed at, but coming from a science background it always bugged me that “interpolation” became the word ppl use to describe a melody or riff borrowed from an older song.
