The narrative that perimenopausal or postmenopausal women need to train differently due to changes in estrogen is not supported by the human data. Regardless of the rep range you choose, you need to train close to failure and focus on progression over time!

Weighted vests are all over TikTok. But are the purported benefits really worth making walking less enjoyable?

TikTok’s favorite fitness trend makes walking far less enjoyable.

Imagine if physicians started prescribing medications that had only been tested in rodents. That would be reckless and irresponsible, right? Women deserve evidence-based exercise, nutrition, and health recommendations.

Oral contraceptive pill phase does not influence muscle protein synthesis or myofibrillar proteolysis at rest or in response to resistance exercise https://t.co/uJmyDEpr1S Great work from @drlaurencs1

There is speculation that the use of oral contraceptive pill (OCP) affects skeletal muscle biology and protein turnover in response to resistance exercise; however, research in this area is scarce....

The lack of difference is GOOD NEWS. Women can ditch the confusing and complex cycle syncing recommendations and ignore any fearmongering about oral contraceptives!!

Protein metabolism is very similar between men and women! Let’s not make recommendations without the data to support them!

Cycle-syncing - is there science to support it? Or is it much ado about nothing? Check out this fascinating discussion with @drlaurencs1 Lauren Colenso-Semple PhD. She is a muscle physiology researcher, science communicator, and co-owner of the MASS Research Review. Her

Not only is there a lack of evidence to support exercise programs that align with your menstrual cycle phase…cycle length, ovulation timing, and hormone levels vary SO much between women. Cycle phase-based programs completely ignore this variability.

Excited to finally share this data! Resistance exercise stimulated muscle protein synthesis, but there was no effect of menstrual cycle phase on either resting or exercise-stimulated MPS or MPB. https://t.co/rIFNW1VTNU

One More Time For The People In The Back 🧵 1) There is insufficient high-quality evidence to confirm or refute universal menstrual cycle phase based responses in [sports]women This is more than a lack of consensus amongst the scientific community, this is a lack of credible data
