Had to do an LP today - least favourite procedure, haven't done it in a while. F1 hype was "it'll happen, it's a brat summer." Cue LP success. The power of Charli XCX knows no bounds.

It's sort of laughable that such basic stuff- being able to have a holiday when you want, knowing that you'll be paid correctly - is only just being mandated as being standard for NHS junior doctors, but it's a start, at least.

The NHS is setting out measures to improve the working lives of postgraduate doctors. These include improving payroll accuracy, reducing admin burden and enhancing choice and flexibility with rotas. https://t.co/1wekgYwqei

This. I genuinely have no idea how duel doctor couples at reg level (resident nights, changing hospitals, on call rotas, commutes all over the place) hack this with one kid, let alone multiples. The privilege of having family close by is massive.

Honest question. How do you deal with your child constantly being sick when both parents work? Between pulling her out of daycare and frequent pediatrician appointments it feels so so so hard to accomplish everything you need....

Absolute nonsense at the #RCPEGM tonight. The senior leadership did nothing to allay concerns from the consultant body present or even, at the very least, answer the questions put to them. How are your trainees supposed to feel proud to be a member?

Examining for med school finals and despite being on the other side of OSCEs (hopefully forever...) I ALWAYS get nervous. Just sitting here doing deep breaths and telling myself to calm down.

So instead of tackling the pay crises, the waiting lists, the problem with staff retention, the decimation of community services...Labour are going to prioritise making an already vulnerable group of patients feel less safe in hospital? This is foul.

🚨 BREAKING: Labour will ban trans women from female hospital wards, says Wes Streeting. Labour would ban all trans patients from "single-sex" wards, instead putting them in separate wards solely for trans people. Streeting says this is a "priority" for Labour. (Via Sky News)

In all fairness this is the price I pay for being too lazy to walk down 8 floors to the smartcard office but apparently this has 'never happened before' according to IT Phone Guy.

Is there a more NHS way to come back to the NHS than by spending 30 mins on hold to IT because your smartcard has been locked and logins have expired?

Can confirm this is the case - really flexible and can make the job into what you want it to be, loads of teaching and the clinical side is brilliant with lots of different resp subspecialties to experience!

Over the last few months, multiple "junior doctor" parents have told me about how their maternity pay has been screwed up and how childcare costs are pushing them out of medicine. I can't be on the picket line this time (mat leave!) but stand with you all #DoctorsStrikes

Makes me realise how lucky I've been for the last couple of years- every male consultant I've worked with introduces me to patients/medical students as "Dr", not by my first name. Rubbish that this isn't a universal, automatic thing.

Someone finally made a Med Reg a main character in a hospital drama? And they told the actress about the eye roll? AND the interaction with the male surgical reg doesn't involve fighting over who looks after the patient with pancreatitis?! Floored. #maternal

As a CMT1 on the first Wednesday in August 2017, during induction lectures, I had to pay about £400 to the GMC and £500 to the JRCPTB for my training portfolio. Almost 1k to BE a medical trainee, 3 weeks before payday. And it's only getting worse. Why do we put up with this?

All the support to the ambulance workers today - a group of people who work tirelessly and with so much compassion in a system that's buckling and breaking around them. The government needs to get back round the table and give them what they deserve #ambulancestrike
