Pareidolia is the eager perception of meaningful, agent-intended patterns where no agent exists - or where the agent’s actual intent does not match the perceived meaning. Pareidolia is the semiotic false positive.

The unintuitive dog's balls problem (\(x)x)()struck again today, so I had to go back and revisit how native pipe works in #rstats https://t.co/3WsRzjMzzr

The 1.4 release of @duckdb supports using a DuckDB database to serve vector tiles! Of course, I had to try this out in R. Check it out: all 242,000 US Census block groups dynamically served as vector tiles from a DuckDB database, displayed on a MapLibre map from R in Positron.

I stole this idea and now use it with every single employee. It’s the best illustration I’ve seen of teaching someone to be high agency. It says there are 5 levels of work: Level 1: “There is a problem.” Level 2: “There is a problem, and I’ve found some causes.” Level 3:

The only Bible I take more s seriously than this is the Bible. (Also, the book is far from just about Bayes—in fact, it’s one of a very few to treat Bayes’ theorem as a derived, rather than fundamental, one. And the second half of the book isn’t about probability theory per se,

i recommend everyone read Probability Theory: The Logic of Science by E. T. Jaynes i am pretty sure this is the book Eliezer read that converted him to a hardcore bayesian if you want to know why everyone is talking about updating their priors, it all goes back to Jaynes

I've never seen the Python community embrace any tool faster than they did with uv. uv is likely the best Python tool of the last few years. If you aren't using it yet, stop what you are doing and look into it. If you are already a user, check out the attached cheatsheet.
