This paper is one of the most astonishing feats of sustained data wizardry I have ever seen. Using data from Uber, they are able to estimate the roughness of every road in America and precisely estimate the value people place on it, and so much more. 1/

That's one of the most moving things I've seen on a football pitch, I think: Salah standing in front of the Kop, tears in his eyes, keeping the Jota song going. A really admirable public act of grief.

17 years of PPP rule brought regression, not progress. Literacy fell to 57.54%, enrolment rates dropped, out-of-school children rose to 7.2 million. Infrastructure is broken, learning outcomes dismal, and teacher quality barely improved.@YousufNazar

This is a huge failure of the entire international community. For days, India had been at it. And nothing. Now there HAS to be a quick effort at scaling things down. How was India allowed to bring this region to this point?

There has been one war between nuclear-armed states: that between India and Pakistan in 1999. That war was contained to a mountainous area near the Indian town of Kargil. We are about to see if nuclear-armed states can fight another war without risking calamity. God help us all.

Indians and Pakistanis living in two entirely different, diametrically opposed information ecosystems right now. Our realities, as shaped by our media, are nothing alike. Our bomb is their crash. Their attack is our military exercise. Two different worlds. One very bad outcome.
