All three ills mentioned in this tweet - fiscal ruin, boom/bust cycles, elite "awash in cash" - predate the NFC Award. The Award did not cause them. Local govts are good, but rolling back the 18th Amendment and NFC award is not required for them.

In fashionable elite circles it is sacrilegious to speak against the NFC award and the 18th amendment. But a lopsided NFC has ruined Pakistan’s fiscally and caused huge boom and bust cycles. And 18th amendment’s devolution of power has only meant ruling elites awash with cash at

Minister Ahsan Iqbal is utterly wrong saying that NFC places 'undue burden on Centre' Burden is self-inflicted by fed govt's failure to reduce its bloated non-dev expenditure Solution is in respecting the 18th Amendment n abolishing fed Ministries that are in provincial domain

🧵1/5 Acemoglu or Paul Baran’s Prize? Acemoglu’s argument on settler versus non-settler colonialism was first presented, in almost the same language, by the Marxist economist Paul Baran decades before the publication of AJR 2002 in his book The Political Economy of Growth.

Excellent 👏🏽. This is how public spending creates positive externalities for the poor. Not frivolous borrowing and spending on jobless, glamorous projects that only indulge the rich and the middle classes.

Wasn’t quite to be this time but I’m very proud to have achieved Labour’s best ever result in the constituency and to have reduced a 27k majority to 2.5k. I’m hugely grateful to our CLP for all of their hard work, and of course to the 16,750 people who voted for me.
