Its not everyday that you get to do fieldwork on the periphery of a fort. Walked thru lush green #Chitradurgafort built around a majestic landscape. It was ruled for over 200 years by Nayakas of Chitradurga of the Vijayanagar Empire. The song 'O Hansini' was shot here.

Like many researchers, we wrestle with length of the form. The Qn- what counts as a household sparks a discussion (as always). Qns on mothers’ work, childcare, and women’s mental load draws a smile from the female surveyors. One says, 'I'll fill this survey myself first.' IYKYK

Every survey form has a long journey with constant tweaks, endless versions. Then the pilots and surveyor training — excitement, pushback on a few questions, more revisions. And after a serious test run, the surveyors say, “We’re ready to hit the field. Don't worry.” Phew.
