Important new research from @Invest_Britain. If the UK had invested at the same rate as the average OECD country over the last 30 years it would have invested £550bn more. This is the root cause of our decline.

Ramping up public investment is the best route out of the UK’s productivity crisis. Our new report finds increasing public investment by an additional 2% of GDP per year would kickstart growth, raise average earnings, and strengthen the public finances. https://t.co/0uVbFj0czj

UP claims that Zelensky’s administration tried to launch a treason case against parliamentary majority leader, David Arakhamia, in the wake of the Ukrainian corruption scandal. But SBU chief Malyuk and prosecutor-general Kravchenko unexpectedly refused to cooperate. A major

Why are you drivelling @afneil ? What exactly happened to the bond markets & debt during the 2008 financial crisis? Or Covid?

Total drivel. If you don’t want to be disciplined by the bond markets don’t borrow from them. But stop complaining if you do.

By the Bank of England's own words he is correct. You are pushing a political choice not an economic 'reality'. The critiques of Polanski are relying on public ignorance.

Quite. V worrying coming from the leader of an increasingly popular party. The populism of far left and far right have much in common. Pretending there are simple answers, no economic constraints, and always others to blame and others who will pay.

England is running out of water. Reservoirs near 30%, groundwater depleted, another dry winter looming. The government talks reservoirs while rivers run dry. This is climate breakdown — and the UK is utterly unprepared. https://t.co/fIdskl8QOk

It is urgent and necessary. NATO was designed for America not Europe. Stop outsourcing your politics to 'what Putin wants' THAT's plainly unserious.

#DRCongo I'd argue that while Belgium played a major role in Lumumba's murder, Britain & the US were also complicit . Stockwell writes about the American diplo who drove around with Lumumba's corpse in his car boot & while Britain covers its tracks - we see traces.

Ukraine’s Security Council chief Rustem Umerov says the work on the 28-point plan is “at the final stage” (quoting the Ukrainian part of his post) and that the plan includes a majority of what Ukraine views as priority issues. EU, Britain appear to be very much out of the room.

Neoclassical economics, which pervades all social science in the West, has no account for why WW1 started (Marxists say it was competing imperialisms). A big part of failure of the West right now is its elites learn this stuff. Even Classics more useful.

This is a good deal for Ukraine. Robust security guarantees, a Ukrainian military 600,000 strong, and a DMZ in the non-Russian held parts of the Donbass. Those media outlets that initially framed this as a Ukrainian capitulation ought to be ashamed of themselves.

this was very interesting: i just had a look at just how big a force of 600,000 men is - the limit on AFU in the US 28-point plan deal turns out it is massive. it makes Ukraine force by far the largest army in Europe - almost x2 more than Turkey in #3 place and almost x3 more

One striking feature in the wake of Trump’s peace plan is the silence of usual suspects among the Ukrainian far right who threatened Zelensky with Maidan in 2020-22, successfully steering him into the war with Russia. Near-total silence from Azov Movement and associated Russian
