I lost a lot of weight in the last year and there isn’t any secret to it. I have a BMI of 21 and I aim for a net of ~1200 calories per day because that’s my basal metabolic rate (BMR), and any woman my size or smaller that says they consistently eat more is lying. Today’s diary!

People will try every diet and fitness trend imaginable before they accept calories-in-calories-out (CICO), which I honestly get because it’s tedious and difficult.
a lot of the promise of MAHA is that you can become healthy and fit while still eating lots of high calorie junk food if you just force “them” to swap specific bad ingredients, like high fructose corn syrup with cane sugar or seed oils with beef tallow.

If I was doing comms for Democrats, I’d go “No that ad is not a dog whistle, people saying that are pathetic, now let’s talk about Trump crashing the economy and making those American Eagle jeans more expensive” but I’m not doing comms for Dems largely because I’d say that.

Democrats rebutting the perception that the Sydney Sweeney ad is a eugenics dog whistle would be better than saying nothing, but Dems are still in the anger phase of grief about the political Realignment, and don’t want to engage in this fight, to the party’s detriment.
If you want to staff a government with people who like the ad, and not people who think it's a eugenics dog whistle, you probably are better off electing a Republican. But Ds have started leaving the clickbait/FYP field, bc that field favors the right now.

People have the right to different views, but I would love it if they’d be honest about what their views actually were and didn’t equivocate because polite society would think they’re freaks, and this applies across the political spectrum.

I listened to the Ezra Klein episode with Yoram Hazony, whose theory about nationalism entirely tiptoes around immigration and race, but claims Hillary Clinton said elections were stolen just like Donald Trump did. There’s something rotten in the state of the intellectual right!.

@donaldball My go to example here is that only ~7% of the population answer "strongly disagree" the statement "it is sometimes necessary to discipline a child with a good, hard spanking". If you or most of the people you know say "strongly disagree" then you are very weird!!!

Nope, the liberal elites are correct, spanking is inherently abusive, and taking away your child's iPad isn't the same as hitting them. I was never spanked, and I am and always was arguably disciplined to a fault so not being able to handle your child is a real skill issue.
Most research on the effects of spanking - I swear this is true - does not adjust for child behavior BEFORE BEING SPANKED. If you do, IIRC, spanking may cause some later-life resentment, but has the significant and obvious positive effects you would expect.

Fun fact: Back during my party girl days, the better looking twin spilled beer on me and my favorite white halter top. To his credit, he was suitably apologetic about it and helped me get a towel, but RIP to that white halter top.

It’s not just men either. Some beautiful women get FURIOUS when women who aren’t conventionally attractive are professionally accomplished and loved because that means eating <1200 calories/day since the age of 12 wasn’t actually a necessary condition for love and success.
Personally, I think that a weird side element of "lean in" 2000s culture existing at the same time as peak lad mag is the idea that women should be hot all the time, need to be hot all the time, must be hot all the time, but also can do anything! but also need to be hot.

I never assume people's relationships because I might be wrong and end up really embarrassed, just like the guy on the hiking trail today who thought my dad and I were married. God forbid a man have a daughter at 22, have a great relationship with her, and still work out at 53!.
