Avid foodies, even environmentally-minded ones, all seem to balk at the idea that you can cook well without gas. Well, @MelissaClark is a fan of induction, what other endorsement might you need?

As the perils of gas stoves become more apparent, there’s ever more reason for cooks to turn to these flameless, easy-to-clean ranges.

.@NOAA estimates that weather disasters have cost the US $750B in the past 5 years ($145B in 2021 alone). Context: #BuildBackBetter invests $555B over the next 10 years for addressing the #ClimateCrisis. We can't afford to not act. https://t.co/vCXzg7A3HB

2021 was the second consecutive year with 20 or more billion-dollar disasters in the US, totalling more than $145 billion.

In the 1980s, there was one billion-dollar event every four months, on average. Now, there's one every ~3 weeks. Why? Three reasons: increasing exposure, increasing vulnerability, and the big one, increasing severity and/or frequency of weather extremes fueled by a warming world.

This is huge! India halting all new coal power plants even as electricity demand is projected to grow 3x would a game changer for climate. The US, on the other hand, with far more resources & far less dependent on coal can't even commit to phasing it out.

OMG it’s Friday already! Now what’s happening at #COP26? For the dazed and confused here’s a thread which I hope might help explain the issues on this last day of the conference (except it won’t be - it’s obvious now this will go into Saturday). 🧵 /1
