As someone who cares deeply about this work, I recognize that Zillow is amongst the committed pioneers. It sees itself as a “cloud-headquartered company.”. The philosophical underpinnings of Zillow’s approach are laudable. It works diligently to not enable a two-class system.

My approach to work is based on a systems-level approach. It's the responsibility of the organization to build and sustain systems that make it easy for work to happen. Frictionless comms and collaboration drives delivery of results, no matter where results are driven from.

Remote work isn't a perk. Remote work isn't a policy. It's an operating model. Even for orgs which do not identify as remote, the reality is that work happens on the internet. It's time to change the narrative.
