1/ I have some thoughts about the next phase of NFTs, gaming, social media, and story telling.
Going to try to explain what an Internet Cinematic Universe (ICU) is. Btw you're in one right now.
What if I told you there's an open source character creator program program in the works that loads in a browser and supports custom UGC bases / wearables and exports glb / VRM + minting functionality and has a sleek UI that looks like this 👀

Short clip of using a

Motivated to build a city in the cloud
@Balajis
has spoken about! We've been 3D scanning and collecting interesting locations in cities around the world and uploading them into virtual worlds across multiple platforms, progress:

We sometimes take for granted how 25+ years of open-access web history keeps our world more grounded in reality because of the
@internetarchive
Things like Wayback Machine make it easier to validate what's true or not, and more difficult for powerful entities to rewrite history
In the future you won't just be limited to using the platform specific SDK. For example, this is Cryptovoxels (
@bablyonjs
) running simultaneously with Moonrider (
@aframevr
). This is what takes VR / AR from being an app store to being the next internet.

Larva Labs made a NFT collection (meebits) using the metaverse as marketing, bagged 70M, made them unusable as metaverse avatars / game dev for half a year until community pestered them about rigging (you're welcome), then disappeared quietly in the night after selling to yuga 🫤
Grats to Josie & team on the launch of
@CyberBrokers_
, the art is stunning and all stored 100% on-chain 👏
I got one of the chars
@goldweard
brought to life in 3D working as a usable avatar for virtual worlds 😤👍
Left: promises you a metaverse project, raises 70M
Right: building in public, years of proof of work that's independently verifiable ()
Funny how this space works sometimes 😅
WebGPU is a game changer, it enables websites to fully utilize a system's GPU - intending to ship on Chrome 113 in a few months (April 2023):
Couple context specific stats:
- 3.7x faster than WebGL (source: Intel)
- Some demos 10x better perf (source: MS)
If you go to your page on you can download the new rigged avatar files. I'm so looking forward to virtual meetups (meebups? lol) soon. Follow
@MeebitsDAO
to stay posted on that.
In the meantime, I've got some quick tips on using the

file below 🧵👇
I think many folks don't fully grasp just how insanely huge Disney is and how much they own.
The concept of "decentralized Disney" stuck with me when I was reading about bored apes.
Could NFT powered cinematic universes be the next thing? Could our momentum be co-opted by them?
1/ What happens when we bring open source gamedev, on-chain + 3D artists / programmers, and a virtual production team together into a collaborative media movement?
Sharing a vision of what we been building towards in the last 4 months
@m3org
🧵
Metaverse interoperability starts with communication.. Today I organized a gathering of web3 and VR builders in a dank cryptoart gallery timecapsule to unpack news, share projects, and be inspired with art
We also discussed open standads / glTF and explored a VR expo too
@m3org
Current metaverse systems place a lot of focus on the real-time experience
yet much of the current web experience is composed of asynchronous communication, including twitter
What can async interactions look like in virtual worlds? How can you leave a comment on something?
Thinking a weekly Twitter spaces for Metaverse Makers
Because of how decentralized things are having more opportunities for voices in web3 and VR (especially webxr) talk with each other is really needed. Sometimes I can explain in 1 hr what'd take a week to write.
Thoughts?
4/ Now imagine the Internet as a game we're all playing.
Big difference between this and other CU's is that we all have presence / digital real estate here. It is our shared universe we live, work, play in.

6/ We're now immortalizing our myths (art + memes) onto an immutable public ledger via NFTs. We'll start seeing more 3D NFTs and other file types soon.
In the next few years these ingredients will shape together in other forms like film and games while sharing a common history.
Finished a new 3D site, this one inspired by Zelda N64 shops (all original models here)
First of its kind that I commissioned music for, flipped a person who usually dislikes autoplaying music to enjoy it 😎

One of the coolest things I've seen in
@neos_vr
, a working 3D printer that can actually read gcode. You can also stop and grab the object anytime during the process
It's been a long-term dream of mine to help build a 100% digital Hollywood / virtual production ecosystem
Movie assets can be recycled into games, and games need animated cut scenes
The entire 3D production pipeline can happen remotely now, with AI tools also speeding things up
Amazing digital twin of an entire village. Platforms like VRchat are filling in the gap that Google missed out on for not having social functions. These types of scans can also be useful for prototyping AR with a remote team in VR.
The biggest VR festival in the world is happening right now in
#VRChat
. There are literally thousands of indie booths showcasing avatars, wearables, and products.
It's fun to imagine that someday there'll be something like this for NFTs too. Ya'll should check it out.

In the 3D Internet even the error codes are VR spaces. It's completely customizable btw, we can turn the entire web into an MMORPG of sorts if we wanted to
What if the ppl who are best to ask to know how to build the metaverse aren't the corpo doxxed types that have cushy jobs but rather anon neets, gamers, and otakus that live it, often at expense of all else offered in a society they don't quite seem to fit in?
Happy 10 year anniversary since Oculus DK1 to all VR OGs, TY
@PalmerLuckey
for bringing us all together and changing our lives with virtual reality 🫡
Does Twitter support 8k resolution images? I did some photography:
If you're researching / building / investing in metaverse stuff then IMO these are highly worth also doing:
- read Snow Crash
- explore vrchat (50 hrs)
- check out neosvr (12 hrs)
- casual Fortnite (1 season)
- make a VRM avatar (vroid studio)
- setup a hardware wallet w/ steel
Porting the CloneX space pods into different platforms than the one it was designed for is a study to better understand the meaning of ownership and control.
Also, if the avatars are designed to be interoperable, shouldn't the home spaces be as well?

Fuck the haters
Crypto as a means to transact permissionlessly to anyone in the world, identity via private key ownership vs relying on Google or w/e, exploring new digital biz models + funding for building censorship resistant tech stacks / open source software is punk rock af
The tooling we're building for assembling the 3D

AFAIK I haven't seen any other avatar builder app with support for drag n' dropping user generated content

Think this is one of the most important parts of the Meta (formally FB) presentation today. Solid set of categories to build a metaverse framework around.
I'ma make an outline for what the open / decentralized stack looks like with links to projects and research.
Few ideas to maximize metaverse decentralization:
- Frontends should be built on open source engines, not Unity
- Virtual worlds should be easy to self host
- Privacy / anonymity must be preserved and cherished
Congrats to
@cryptovoxels
for selling out Origin City and breaking past $1M USD volume! Here's a 2 year before and after pic, each parcel is a living 3D website owned by someone using the Ethereum blockchain: 😎🚀
8/ I think we are getting to the point now where we have enough interesting ingredients we can weave together into a cinematic universe that we all have shared ownership of.
This is what
@webaverse
has been lately working on: .
In a period of mega metaverse funding rounds I think
@webaverse
sticks out one of the most ethical projects in the space

Interoperability is a big subject as it pertains to NFTs and the Metaverse. We want the things we create or earn to work on other platforms, ye?
Using
@Cryptovoxels
as an example but it can apply to anything built with open standards or a shared data layer.

I just wanna be able to make virtual worlds and avatars that we have full ownership over, can stand the test of time through implementation of open standards and file formats, and collaborate with my internet friends without having to dox ourselves in order to pay each other >_<
Multi-format NFTs are a really interesting development in the space; we're going from tokenized files to tokenized folders on the world computer.

for "Internet Cinematic Universe"
The main value drivers around collectible assets is the narrative/story
Collectibles = non-functional so they rely almost entirely on the "lore" for value
Ask yourself when purchasing collectibles "does this have a compelling story that will make sense 1-3 years from now?"

I have a theory why VR people aren't as hype about the Metaverse anymore. It has to do with value alignment.
NFT people can and want to own a slice of the future successor to the internet.
VR people prob feel like they're building someone elses vision, like the platform owners.
