I think about this tweet so much that I am just going to pin it to my timeline.
One of the largest sources of confusion & frustration:. 1) a decision needs to be made.2) it's unclear who has the *authority* to make the decision.3) it's unclear who will be *held accountable* for the decision. Chaos ensues.

My Mom and MIL both had their last kids at 42! I hope they both live to 100. 🥰.
Did you know that pregnancy after the age of 40 INCREASES your likelihood of living to the age of 100? It has to do with elongated telomeres and protecting against cognitive decline but anyway,. it seems all the talk of making sure you stop having kids after 30 is largely fear.

Was just talking with @jordanmcgillis about this. Easy to be a legalize all drugs libertarian when you are childless & can retreat to your apartment with your laptop. Having kids def changes your outlook.
@colonialbot3 @eigenrobot The potential destructive effects of all the random dysfunctional adult behavior that you saw when you were single suddenly becomes clear, because now it can affect you in ways that you can't just walk away from. Skin in the game.

Dumb take. Shoes touch the ground outside which is gross and covered in dirt. I don’t like dirt in my home. Plus, crawling babies. “BuT NoRMAn RockWell…” is some weird nativist cope.
Yes, when I was a kid we’d think of shoes off in the house like plastic on the couch. It’s something a relatively poor person with middle class aspirations does to protect their, “investment.”.

Proud to have played the teeniest role in FIRE’s success (I was an intern in 2010 and wrote thank you notes to donors). Even deeper lore: Nico was in my intern class!.
The enemy of free speech is power. The true test of your commitment to free speech is how you respond when power changes hands. Whether it's liberals or conservatives doing the censoring, @TheFIREorg will always stand up for free speech.

Our dinner table conversations turn into op-ed fodder. 😅. We’ve done centers, in-home daycare, and part time nanny. Childcare will always be complicated for 2 working parents that is for sure.
When @cynthiamcgillis and I look at our $5,000+ monthly bill, I can't help but grumble "the cost of childcare is too damn high.". But when I think like an economist I understand why. My latest @washingtonpost. 🧵

Excellent thread on improving your thinking, operating, and real-world outcomes.
I've significantly improved my thinking since 2020 on a few fronts. But in order to talk about what new methods I've learnt, I need to define what good thinking means to me. When I say good thinking, I mean: patterns of thought that lead to better outcomes in the real world.

Teenagers & parents are optimizing for two very different things. Hence why suburbia feels stifling to the former and lovely to the latter.
reflecting in my newfound suburban euphoria why the suburbia of my early adolescence felt so oppressive rather than idyllic. this is a question that is directed mostly at what to do in the case that i'm lucky enough to have teenagers under my care in the coming decades.
